The Landing Point Afternoon High Tea Buffet (The Fullerton Bay Hotel)

The last time we had the afternoon high tea at Landing Point was 3 years ago. We wanted to visit more often but as we were busy, we had to space out and plan our foodie journey. So finally, we made a trip down to Landing Point! The setting and ambiance was still the same as before.

The Afternoon High Tea Buffet is available daily from 3pm to 5.30pm and cost $45++ per person. Interestingly, the price has decreased compared to $49 in 2013. Well, this is the first I have heard of. It is more common to hear about inflation. Kudos to Landing Point! In terms of food menu, there are slight changes such as the replacement of Lobster Tarts (my favourite) with Boston Lobster Cornet. Also, there are more than 20 varieties of TWG Tea to enjoy while indulging in the high tea and enjoying the beautiful view of Marina Bay.
Scones with clotted cream and berry jam
We started off with the Scones with clotted cream and berry jam. There have two type of scones available; plain or raisins scones.
Tada! The three-tiered high tea set which is refillable.
Cucumber Sandwich with Ikura Roe, Duck Confit Roulade in Sesame Bun, Boston Lobster Cornet, Smoked Salmon Mille Feuille with Caviar
I still remember that Lobster Tart was one of my favourites. I was disappointed that it was replaced with Boston Lobster Cornet as it was salty and had a fishy after taste.

My favourites this time was the Duck Confit Roulade in Sesame Bun, Smoked Salmon Mille Feuille with Caviar, Truffle Egg Mayo on Baguette and the scones!
The Food and Beverage (Tea & Coffee) menus for this high tea is appended below.

Beverage (Tea & Coffee) Menu
Overall, I am still a fan of The Landing Point Afternoon High Tea Buffet. Great place to chill and unwind. Moreover, you get to try so many variety of tea and finger food.

The Landing Point Afternoon High Tea Buffet (The Fullerton Bay Hotel)

The Landing Point Afternoon High Tea Buffet was something which we wanted to try for sometime. We had heard so much about its three tier high tea set.
Noticed the piano at the side? A pianist started playing the piano at around 330pm providing soothing background music which set the tone for the relaxing afternoon.
Comfy yet cozy sofa seats to chill out while enjoying the view.
It over looks Marina Bay Sands.
Elegant, dignified table setting.
Beverage (Tea & Coffee) Menu
The Landing Point's Afternoon High Tea Buffet cost $49++ per person on weekdays and weekends from 3pm to 530pm. If you would like a sparkling wine to go along with your high tea, it is $69++. For a child, it would be $25++. Currently, UOB cardholders would be able to enjoy a 15% discount. So do remember to use this card if you have it.

There's 20 varieties of TWG Tea to enjoy while indulging in the high tea and enjoying the beautiful view of Marina Bay.
Plain Scone
Plain Scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam. There was also Raisin Scone. The Scones were average; they were not buttery enough.
Festive three-tiered high tea set
The main star was the three-tiered high tea set which is refillable. As we visited during the Christmas period, their normal three-tier high tea set was replaced with the Festive three-tiered high tea set.
Top Tier
The top tier consisted of mainly sweet items - Crème Brulee, Christmas Cake, Christmas Cookies and Christmas Pie.
Second Tier
The second tier which consisted of savoury items was our favourite - Lobster Tarts, Biscuit with Cheese and Fig, Truffle Egg Sandwich, Smoked Salmon Sandwich, Turkey Sandwich, Smoked Duck Sandwich and Cucumber Tomato Sandwich. We refilled this tier several times and did not refill the other tiers.
Front to back (Lobster Tarts, Biscuit with Cheese and Fig, Truffle Egg Sandwich, Smoked Salmon Sandwich)
Our top 3 items were the (order of preference) Lobster Tarts, Truffle Egg Sandwich and Smoked Duck Sandwich. We constantly ate these 3 items and got refills for them as they were real good. Other than that, the rest were mediocre.
Last Tier
The last (third) tier also consisted of sweet items - Pistachio Cake with Chocolate, Christmas Fruit Cake, Raspberry and Cream, and Macarons. The bitter sweet Chocolate Macaron was easily the best among all the items in this tier.

Most of the items in the first and third tier was too sweet.
Refills
The refills were placed at the back of our seats. The staff would make it a point to constantly provide refills for customers. However, service was a little on the slower end. They seemed under staffed and could not cope with the crowd. As you can see from the above photo, the popular items which was constantly being refilled was the food items in the second tier.
Left to Right: Fullerton Express Tea, Fruit Mountain
There was way too many selections of TWG  teas to try and could only try 2 different tea. For the first tea, I went for something light; the Fullerton Express Tea which was specially commissioned from TWG Tea by the Fullerton Group. It was a light, refreshing and fragrant tea. The second tea I tried was the Fruit Mountain which was a black tea. It was stronger in taste with a delicate sweetness to it.

As you may have already figure out, other than the Teas, the food was average. We ate mainly the Lobster TartTruffle Egg Sandwich and Smoked Duck Sandwich only. The price was on the higher end. But the ambience was excellent - Quiet, cozy with a great view. Perfect for a date or to just chill out and chat.
A summary video on the Afternoon High Tea Buffet which I posted on Instagram.

Don - Your Personal Pie Club (China Square Central)

Don - Your Personal Pie Club located at China Square Central started out serving pies. Today, it has expanded its product range from Chicken Pies to Crab Bee Hoon! What a combination! (Western plus Chinese). Although this place is not halal certified, they use no pork and lard. In addition, their chicken used in the pies are from a halal supplier. (check out the write up on the chicken pie at the last section of this post)
Don - Your Personal Pie Club has received several recognitions from newspapers, TV programmes and magazines for its Chicken Pie and even Crab Bee Hoon.
Pipping hot pies!
Don's Chicken Pie (top), Chicken Shephard's Pie (Bottom)
The Don's Chicken Pie and Chicken Shephard's Pie are the two pies that have garnered many reviews online!

Lots of seating capacity at the back of the shop.
Claypot Crab Bee Hoon $19.00
Presenting Don - Your Personal Pie Club's Claypot Crab Bee Hoon! I have not tried this dish over here before. But have heard so much raves about it that I know, I had to make a trip down one day to try this!

The Claypot Crab Bee Hoon's broth had a slight hint of herbal (e.g. dang gui) taste in it. It was very flavourful and unique, different from the other Crab Bee Hoon soup (maybe due to slight herbal taste in it). I felt that the flavour of the roe of the crab, ginger and yam was not fully infused in this broth. There were 2 big pieces of fried Yam in it, along with vegetables, bee hoon and of course the Crab!

The crab is medium size. This is the star of the dish and it did not disappoint! The crab was very fresh! The crab meat was firm, sweet and you can easily pull out the whole crab meat from the shell be it the body, legs or even claws. (How many times have you done this? Most of the time the crab meat just sticks to the shell).
Don's Chicken Pie
Don's Chicken Pie (Whole) $18.00
As we were still feeling hungry, we decided to buy Don's Chicken Pie (Whole) back home and ask for a quarter of it to be taken out on a plate for our consumption.

The chicken pie consisted of ingredients that include corn, carrot, potato, sliced boiled egg, mushrooms, peppercorn and chicken! Look at the above pictures and you will notice how big and thick this pie is! The other crust was not too thick is not too thick, just sufficient to hold the ingredients. It was very crispy, light and fluffy! The filling inside was flavourful and fragrant. However, I felt that the flavour of the spices was not as strong as before. Nevertheless, this is still one Chicken Pie worth coming back for!

Although  Don - Your Personal Pie Club is not halal certified, they do not use any pork and lard. In addition, their chicken used in the pies are from a halal supplier. Hence, Muslim friends can enjoy this  pie too.
For takeaways, you will be given a solid box that will keep your pie warm for a few hours!

Overall, I like my dining experience at Don - Your Personal Pie Club. Both the Claypot Crab Bee Hoon and Don's Chicken Pie were delicious! Now I understand why there has been so much positive word of mouth on the Claypot Crab Bee Hoon! If I am working in the CBD area, I am sure I will be eating this every week!

High Society (Marina Bay Sands)

High Society is a record company and is the only record company in the world that is endorsed by all four major recording labels ; Sony, Universal Music, Warner and EMI. You may be wondering what High Society has to do with food since it is a record company. Well, High Society has ventured into the F&B industry and opened its first music theme restaurant in Asia at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Display of cakes

The restaurant has a very modern and classy look. Looks like the perfect place for a date!
Two Menus
Two different menus. 1 for wine and 1 for the set lunch. There are 3 different set lunch to choose from. We chose the lunch set that cost $29++ with choice of Starter, Soup of the Day, Choice of Main and Choice of Black Coffee or English Breakfast Tea.
Starter - Salmon Tartar
There are two choice for Starters; Salmon Tartar or Crab Caesar. I choose Salmon Tartar.
Soup of the Day - French Onion Soup
Soup of the Day - French Onion Soup
The French Onion Soup was full of.. well caramelised onions. The caramelised onions were delicious! However, the soup was on the salty end.
Choice of Main - Oxtail Stew
Choice of Main - Oxtail Stew (Focaccia Bread)
My friend ordered the Oxtail Stew which was served with Focaccia Bread. The Oxtail was stewed in red wine sauce and underneath the Oxtail, there's mashed potato.
Choice of Main -  Chicken Vin Jaune
I ordered the Chicken Vin Jaune was seared baby chicken served with madeira sauce. It is served along with Asparagus, sauteed mushrooms and carrot puree. The chicken was delicious! Outside, it was seared till its skin was very crispy! Inside, the meat was very soft, tender and juicy! I would have given this dish a perfect score.

But well... I was disappointed... the joint area was under-cooked with red blood visible. When I inform the waiter, he told me that the meat was cooked and that it was the lighting that made it look red. Well, with his (waiter) remark, I was even more disappointed as this was not the way this should be handled. (With such a nice setting and ambience, their customer service did not match up to it) It was clearly undercooked. As it was a happy occasion and I was with my friends, I did not want to make a big fuss. I just left that part untouch.
English Breakfast Tea
English Breakfast Tea which they used their own blend of tea mix. Nothing special about its taste, was normal.

Initially, when I entered this place, I thought that this could be a perfect place for a date. But after the meal, I guess not. The food and customer service were disappointing.

Yomenya Goemon (Marina Bay Link Mall)

Yomenya Goemon Japanese Spaghetti House is a Japanese food outlet that sells only spaghetti cooked the Japanese way! In addition, you get to eat your spaghetti with chopsticks! It is located at the new Marina Bay Link Mall. The nearest MRT station is Raffles Place MRT station near exit I.

Half & Half Set Menu
Set Lunch Menu
Both of us ordered the Set Lunch Menu. She ordered Set C whie I ordered Set A. Her choice of spaghetti was‘Smoked Chicken & Four Cheeses’ while mine was‘Mediterranean Tomato Cream Soup (Spaghetti with Fresh Seafood)’. Both would have cost $13.50 each if ordered as a la carte.
Salad Bar
For each set, only one serving from the salad bar is allowed. Look at the variety.
I am such a typical Singaporean, my bowl was filled to the brim after my trip to the salad bar.
Mediterranean Tomato Cream Soup (Spaghetti with Fresh Seafood)
We were told the Mediterranean Tomato Cream Soup was their top best seller. True, to the recommendation of the staff, it was delicious! This is a cream based pasta. It was not very creamy, hence eating was enjoyable even till the end.The seafood was very fresh. No wonder it is their best seller. Certainty something to try.
Smoked Chicken & Four Cheeses
Smoked Chicken & Four Cheeses another cream based pasta. It was too creamy, otherwise would certainty be another dish that would be a hit among foodies.
Soup
Soup that comes with the set.
Dessert Menu

Chocolate Cake with Cookie & Ice Cream would have cost $6.00 if it did not come along with the set. The cookie and ice cream were just average. But the chocolate cake was the star. Do give it a try!
Overall, i would definitely come back and try the other spaghetti again. Yummy! Moreover, the portion per serving was huge. If you are a small eater, you could order the half & half set and share with a friend. They are opening a 2nd outlet at Katong Mall somewhere in August this year. Wish that their 3rd can be situated at a more convenient location, such as Woodlands or Yishun.
