Teo's Noodles (Bedok Interchange Food Centre)

Fishball Minced Meat Noodles With Razor Clams $4
Teo's Noodles is a popular traditional Fishball Minced Meat Noodles (aka Bak Chor Mee) stall located at Bedok Interchange Food Centre which is just minutes away from the Bedok MRT station and interchange.
Teo's Noodles is very popular and I understand that their food can get sold out as early as 12pm on certain days. I visited on a weekday at 9am and was surprised to see a queue (of about 6 persons) at this stall.
Menu
They sell mainly Fishball Minced Meat Noodles with the option to add Razor Clams.

I ordered the Fishball Minced Meat Noodles With Razor Clams $4. I requested for the dry version with chilli and mee pok.
Fishball Minced Meat Noodles With Razor Clams $4
It was served with a bowl of soup that was filled with fishball, meatball, button mushroom, minced meat, and otah fishcakes and normal fishcakes.

The Fishball Minced Meat Noodles With Razor Clams was delicious! The bowl of noodles was well cooked. The mixture of chilli sauce and vinegar complemented the noodles perfectly. In addition, the crispy bits of pork lard was the icing on the cake. The bowl of noodles which contained all the "liao" (i.e fishball, meatball, button mushroom, minced meat, and otah fishcakes and normal fishcakes) was decent. My only complaint is that they could have been more generous with the ingredients especially the minced meat.

I will certainly patronise this stall again if I visit the hawker centre.

Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee 成香肉脞面 (85 Fengshan Food Centre)

Minced Pork Noodles $3.00
During this visit to 85 Fengshan Food Centre, we decided to try Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee 成香肉脞面 Minced Pork Noodles (Bak Chor Mee Soup).
This food centre is famous for their soup version Minced Meat Noodles. There are two stalls (i.e. Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian and Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee) selling this side by side, next to each other. Normally, I will just go for Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian's version.  But since recently, I heard that both stall's standard are on par, I decided to try Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee 成香肉脞面's version.
While Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian sells only the soup version of the Minced Meat Noodles, Seng Hiang sells both dry and soup versions.
Minced Meat Noodles $3.00
The Minced Meat Noodles $3 was served with meatballs, minced meat, pork lard and garnished with slices of red chilli and spring onion. Frankly, we were not too satisfied with this hence, we decided to call a similar version from the other stall for comparison.

Both Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian 兴记肉脞面 and Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee 成香肉脞面 Minced Pork Noodles (Bak Chor Mee Soup) looks alike. Can you guess which is from which stall?

Well, the left one is from Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian ($2.50) while the right one is from Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee ($3.00).

Noodles
XJ version was soft and more springy whereas SH version was harder and stiff.

Meatball
XJ version was bouncier, tastier and softer compared to SH version

Minced Meat
XJ version had a good balance of fats and meat, and was tender and fluffy. On the other hand, SH version had just too much fats compared to meat.

Soup
XJ version was tasty, and flavourful whereas SH version was on the salty end.

In terms of the overall taste, we all agreed that Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian (XJ) version beats Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee (SH) hands down. Well, taste is subjective. One man's meat is another man's poison.

Inspirasi Stall (Bedok Interchange Food Centre)

Soto Ayam $2.50
Inspirasi is a muslim hawker stall located at Bedok Interchange Food Centre. The food centre recently underwent renovation. It is now well-ventilated and airy due to its high ceilings and numerous fans.
Inspirasi sells Mee Rebus, Soto Ayam, Mee Soto, Chicken Porridge at $2.50 and fried potato patties (Begedil) at $0.50.
This stall is well known within the area and there would be a perceptual queue during lunch and dinner hours. In fact, there would always be a long queue at this stall just before it opens for business.
Soto Ayam $2.50
I ordered the Soto Ayam $2.50 because to me, this is probably the best Soto Ayam in Singapore. It consisted of cubed rice with shredded chicken and bean sprouts in a chicken broth.
Soto Ayam $2.50
The two factors that I believe made this stall so popular is because of (i) fresh ingredients and (ii) chicken broth. The chicken meat was surprisingly soft; tender while the bean sprouts were not only fresh but also cooked just nice.

The chicken stock was clear, light, flavourful and slightly sweet. I always add the sambal chilli (which you can add according to your preference) into the soup to give it a wonderful spicy kick and an added dimension to the taste.

This Soto Ayam is a must try

Chai Chee Pork Porridge 菜市猪肉粥 (85 Fengshan Food Centre)

At 85 Fengshan Food Centre at Blk 85 Bedok North, there are so many stalls that you would likely to to ponder over what to order. This was what happened to us when we travelled to Bedok for Supper. We have heard that the Porridge was quite good, but were wondering if we should waste our calories on porridge for supper. Anyway who eats porridge for supper?! Well, I have to eat my words.. in the end, we ordered 1 bowl of porridge to share.
Chai Chee Pork Porridge 菜市猪肉粥 is apparently quite a famous and popular porridge stall in the food centre. When we were there, there was a short queue, after ordering, we had to wait for around 10 minutes before our order was served to our table. They serve a variety of porridge, ranging from pork, century egg, fish to chicken porridge.
Pork Porridge (猪肉粥) with Egg $3.50
This Pork Porridge (猪肉粥) cost $3. We added an egg for $0.50. The raw egg was placed at the bottom of the bowl before pipping hot porridge was poured over it. The porridge was served with minced pork and lean pork meat, and topped with you tiao and spring onions.
Pork Porridge (猪肉粥) with Egg $3.50
Pork Porridge (猪肉粥) with Egg $3.50
The porridge was surprisingly good. The texture of the porridge was thick and smooth. It was not grainy or watery. Moreover, kudos to the stall owners it was not salty! The decision to add an egg was the icing on the cake as it made the porridge creamier. Wonderful, comforting bowl of porridge. It was simple yet delicious! Though I wish that they were more generous with the pork meat.

Bedok North 85 Fried Oyster 勿洛北85蚝煎 (85 Fengshan Food Centre)

As mentioned in my previous posts, I visited the newly renovated 85 Fengshan Food Centre on a Saturday night at 10pm. While waiting for our Bak Chor Mee from Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian 兴记肉脞面, we ordered the the BBQ Grilled Chicken Wings from Sin Bedok North BBQ Chicken Wings 勿洛北烤鸡翅 and also the Oyster Omelette from Bedok North 85 Fried Oyster 勿洛北85蚝煎.
Bedok North 85 Fried Oyster 勿洛北85蚝煎 occupies two stall unit in the food centre.

Ordered the Oyster Omelette and was told that it would be served to our table in 10 minutes time. However, after waiting for 20 minutes, there was still no sign of our omelette. I went back and check was told that I would need to wait for another 5 minutes!!
Oyster Omelette $3

Oyster Omelette $3
The freshly cooked Oyster Omelette was decently executed. It had the right portion of starch and egg mixed together. Fried over (what I suspect) high heat, each piece was crispy on the outside while soft and moist on the inside. Although there were only 4 pieces of oyster, these oysters were fresh, plump and juicy! Moreover, the chilli complements this real well.

How I wish, there's such a similar hawker centre in the North that serves such food (Soupy Bak Chor Mee, BBQ Chicken Wings and Oyster Omelette).  There would be no need for me to store anymore cup noodles at home. Oh man.. how I envy those living in the East. I can't imagine how happy I would be if I stay at near Bedok 85...

Sin Bedok North BBQ Chicken Wings 勿洛北烤鸡翅 (85 Fengshan Food Centre)

Visited the newly renovated 85 Fengshan Food Centre on a Saturday night at 10pm. While we were waiting for our Bak Chor Mee from Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian 兴记肉脞面, we ordered the the BBQ Grilled Chicken Wings from Sin Bedok North BBQ Chicken Wings 勿洛北烤鸡翅.
The BBQ Grilled Chicken Wings cost $1.30 each and each time you order, you would need to order a minimum of two chicken wings. We had to wait for around 10 minutes for the wings to be served. It's actually a short wait considering that it was during peak hours.
BBQ Grilled Chicken Wings ($3.90)

BBQ Grilled Chicken Wings ($3.90)
The BBQ Grilled Chicken Wings were superbly executed. Crispy and charred glistening skin on the outside while incredibly juicy and tender on the inside. It was well marinated - very flavourful both on the outside and inside. Although the original flavour was delish enough, those who love chilli can consider dipping it into the chilli sauce to add on to the shiokinglicious factor.

As the old KFC solgan goes, finger licking good and highly addictive. Probably one of the best BBQ Grilled Chicken Wings around!

Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian 兴记肉脞面 (85 Fengshan Food Centre)

85 Fengshan Food Centre
It has been almost 10 years since I last visited 85 Fengshan Food Centre at Blk 85 Bedok North. This year, the newly furbished food centre reopened for business after undergoing a 10 months Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme (HUP). It would definitely be good, to visit this place again. I visited this place on a Saturday night at around 10pm. The hawker centre was paced! Filled to the brim with people.
One of the must try in this food centre is the Bak Chor Mee. There are three such stalls. Two of them  (i.e.  Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian and Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee) operating side by side, next to each other. It is quite weird that (direct) competitors seems to like being located side by side or be located in the same food centre. The Lao Ban Beancurd and its competitors (i.e. QQ Soya Bean, 51 Soya Beancurd) are another example. When the craze first started, they were all located in Old Airport Hawker Centre.
One of the must order is definitely the famous soupy Minced Pork Noodles (Bak Chor Mee) from Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian 兴记肉脞面. Over here, there is no need to choose between dry or wet version, chilli or no chilli, or vinegar or no vingear. Instead, there's only the Soup version.

We were told that the waiting time was at least half an hour. (Last week, we waited 1 hr and 3 mins for the Bak Chor Mee!!!) Since we have travel down specially from the North for this, we also ordered Chicken Wings and Oyster Omelette. These dishes helped kept us (to be exact - our fingers and mouth) busy while we waited for the Minced Pork Noodles to be served to us.
Minced Pork Noodles $2.50
Minced Pork Noodles $2.50
This bowl of Minced Pork Noodles was well-executed. It was worth the wait! It was served with meatballs and garnished with slices of red chilli and spring onion. The meatballs were bouncy, fresh, soft and tasty while the noodles were soft and springy (QQ). I thought that what made this bowl of minced pork noodles so unique was the Minced Meat and Soup.
Minced Meat (from another occasion)
The Minced Meat were all hidden at the bottom of the noodles. A generous portion was given and unlike those found elsewhere, these were tender and fluffy with a melt in the mouth sensation (there is no need to chewy). One reason was because, these minced meat were mixed with fats.

The Soup made from pork bones was superb. It was incredibly rich and packed with flavours. It must have cooked for hours to achieve such a taste. In addition, very small pieces of pork lard and fried garlic was added into the soup to enhance the oomph of this bowl of soup. The good news is that I doubt any MSG was added into the soup as I did not felt thirsty after having drank the whole bowl of soup..down to the last drop.

It was good (darn shiok) eating the Minced Pork Noodles (Bak Chor Mee) at Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian 兴记肉脞面 again. This bowl of noodles is outstanding and worth the travel and wait! I envy those who live this hawker centre. They can come down anytime for supper. One of the best Minced Pork Noodles (Bak Chor Mee)!
Even thought we left at 1130pm, Fengshan Food Centre was still packed with people especially at the section where Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian 兴记肉脞面 is located. Well, the night is still young, especially since it was the weekend; Saturday.

If you are wondering where would be a good place to park your vehicle, the carpark next to Blk 90 would be a good choice. It's just a stone throw away from the hawker centre (i.e. 5 minutes).

Sheng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice 盛記海南鷄飯 (Bedok Reservoir Road)

Sheng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice 盛記海南鷄飯 is located along Bedok Reservoir Road under Blk 704 at See Beh Ho Eating House. If this coffee shop sounds familiar, well it could be because you have seen the name in this blog when I posted on 58 Prawn Noodles, Minced Meat Noodle. As its name suggest , Sheng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice specialises in chicken rice!
Sheng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice was one of the food stalls featured in Channel 8 Food Variety Show called 'Buzzing Cashier (抢摊大行动)'. Together with the guidance of renowned chefs, the stall owners are  given training and taught culinary skills to help turn their failing business around. Sheng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice past the test and was allowed to keep the sponsored signboard and was awarded a medal.
Steamed Chicken Rice $3 with Gizzard ($0.50)
Quite a generous serving of rice, steam chicken meat and gizzards was given. In addition, besides slices of cucumbers, there were slices of tomato. The steamed chicken was tough at certain parts. In terms of taste, the chicken meat was slightly bland. Dipping it into the chilli provided helped enhanced the taste. The chilli was wonderful with the right amount of spiciness.

The rice was similarly bland, wish that it was more fragrant.  The soup provided came with bits of cabbage and carrots. Although it was salty, I was happy to just finish up the cabbage and carrots. After all few people eat chicken rice expecting the soup to be fantastic. Right?

Overall, I would say that this is a decent chicken rice stall, but not the best. Just slightly above average. I am keen to try the roasted chicken one day. But at the moment, I am more keen to try the prawn noodle at the next stall.

58 Prawn Noodles, Minced Meat Noodle (Bedok Reservoir Road)

58 Prawn Noodles, Minced Meat Noodle is located along Bedok Reservoir Road under Blk 704 at See Beh Ho Eating House. What a name for a coffeeshop! See Beh Ho a Hokkien dialect means 'Very good'.
The stall owners are very sensitive to the camera!
They sell just 2 items; Prawn Noodle and Minced Meat Noodle (Bak Chor Mee). I have no idea what is nice at this coffeeshop, but a quick observation shows that most people order from this stall. Hence, I decided to order from this stall.

I waited at least 15minutes before my Minced Meat Noodle (Bak Chor Mee) was served. The good news is that all you need to do is order and go back to your seat and wait for it to be delivered to you.
Minced Meat Noodle (dry with chilli) $3.00
Lets start off with the noodles shall we? I ordered Mee Kia (thin noodle). It arrived topped with a very generous amount of crispy deep fried shallots. The Mee Kia was well cooked and springy. The chilli sauce and the shallots complemented the noodles adding on an extra oomph to the taste.
Soup
This bowl of soup is a star dish on its own. The taste of it reminds me of the soup from Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle. I have no idea what they used to cook this bowl of soup, but was visible was minced pork, dumplings, spring onions, fried shallots and fried garlic. The soup was so tasty that I drank all of it and did not feel thirsty after that.
I must also highlight two other ingredients in the soup. The minced meat was super soft! Yes, soft! How can it be right? The dumplings are unique too.

To sum this up, I am very impressed by this the Minced Meat Noodle I had. I like everything that I ate, from the noodle, the sauce, the minced meat to the soup. This type of Minced Meat Noodle is vastly different from the Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle's Bak Chor Mee. Hence, I will not compare it.

Try this place out when you are in the area and let me know what you think.
