Kki Sweets ケーキ(SOTA)

Left to right: Tiramisu $9.80,  Antoinette $8.80
KKI Sweets ケーキ is a Japanese inspired patisserie bakery serving a variety of beautifully decorated cakes, freshly baked daily.
KKI Sweets ケーキ  previously located at Ann Siang Hill is now located at the second level of the School of the Arts (SOTA). The school is a 5-minutes walk away from Exit A of Dhoby Ghuat MRT Station or Exit D of Bras Basah MRT Station.

We visited KKI Sweets ケーキ during a Friday evening at 730pm. The wooden theme furnishing was simple yet modern and elegant. Most of the items were sold out except for just the Tiramisu $9.80 and Antoinette $8.80. Hence, we just ordered both cakes.
Tiramisu $9.80
The Tiramisu $9.80,  cylindrical-shaped was topped with a layer of bitter cocoa powder.
Tiramisu $9.80
The moose underneath the the cocoa powder was light and soft. At its centre was the sponge fingers soaked in Kahlua. This was decent but not fantastic. At $9.80, it is quite pricey for the small portion.
Antoinette $8.80
The Antoinette $8.80 consisted of white chocolate mousse with mango puree in the centre.
Antoinette $8.80
The mousse was again incredibly light and soft that it seems to melt in the mouth. The sweet and rich mango puree in the centre added a new dimension to the taste and complemented well with the subtle white chocolate flavour. This was divine and unique. But before you know it, you would have finished it in a few mouthfuls and wished that there was more.

The two cakes we tried were quite well done. Personally, I prefer the Antoinette. If you are keen to visit, do note the price as it is on the higher end. In addition, if you are dining in, there would be an additional 10% service charge. Lastly, try to be there earlier before 5pm if you do not want to be disappointed as their cakes might be sold out by then.

Pompi Tiramisu - Must Try!! (Italy, Rome)

Tiramisu is a popular Italian dessert. In Italian, "tiramisù" literally means "Life me up" (Cheer me up). In this post allow me to introduce the Best Tiramisu in Rome from Pompi which is famous and popular among the locals.
Spanish Steps
After our visit to the Spanish Steps and Fontana della Barcaccia (Fountain of the Old Boat), we walked  around aimless as we had time to spare. We had already seen countless luxury shops such as Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gucci... and were looking for something more unique. We were not looking for food as we just had lunch. We explored the small alleys and after walking for a good 20 minutes, we both knew that we had hit the gold mine! It all started when we saw many people (all locals) in this particular alley walking out holding on to a box savouring something inside it. We were curious and walked towards the 'source'.
Exterior of Pompi
There was no fanciful decoration outside the shop, not even  a signboard. Yet a constant stream of people walked in and out of it. Those who walked out either carried a box each or had several boxes! Some of them opened the box and started eating while walking. Others stood outside the shop and ate. As we try our best not to be obvious, we 'discreetly' found out that the box contained Tiramisu and most people had one box each! I can't help but notice the happiness beaming through their faces as they ate their Tiramisu!

Subsequently, I found out that the shop is called Pompi (after walking into the shop). Pompi was started in the 1960s by Mr Giuliano Pompi. Although Pompi servers other food, they are most reputable for their Tiramisu. The Tiramisu has been improved over the years and the raw materials used to make it are carefully selected to ensure that it is of the highest quality. It was said that when Pompi was first started, the founder carefully selected a dairy farm and milked the cows early in the morning. After which, he used the cow's milk to prepare the 'perfect' mascarpon!

If the Tiramisu is good enough for the Italians, it is definitely good enough for me!
Counter
Counter with ice cream while at the back were fridge containing boxes of tiramisu. There were several such similar fridges at the side of the shop. Few people were seen ordering the ice cream.
Fridge with other desserts
There were other desserts such as tarts, mousse cake and cheesecakes too.
Pompi Tiramisu Menu
As shown in the menu / price list above, the tiramisu at Pompi comes in many flavours. No worries, if you do not really understand Italian, there's a menu with pictures and English words below.
Pompi Tiramisu Menu
Oh boy, am I glad they have this menu with pictures and some English words! It helped us decide what to order. As we just had lunch, we decided to order just one and share. There was a short queue of 8 person. We joined the queue after figuring out what we wanted to order. The turnover was fast as the Tiramisu were prepared and packaged properly in the fridge.
Tiramisu Classico Caffe e Cioccolato 4  (S$6.27)
We ordered the Tiramisu Classico Caffe e Cioccolato (Classic Chocolate Tiramisu) which cost 4 € (S$6.27).
Tiramisu Classico Caffe e Cioccolato 4  (S$6.27)
Tiramisu Classico Caffe e Cioccolato 4  (S$6.27)
The Classic Chocolate Tiramisu was out of the world. The coffee soaked biscuits were soft, spongy and moist. The layers of biscuits and mascarpon complemented each other perfectly in terms of texture and flavour. It had a fresh, smooth, light and soft consistency and the right balance in taste. Moreover, flakes of chocolate with cocoa dusting added on top resulted in a bitter sweet twist! What a heavenly treat! How could we stop at one!
Tiramisu Gusto Fragola 4  (S$6.27)
We walked back and went in to order the Tiramisu Gusto Fragola (Strawberry Tiramisu) which also cost 4 € (S$6.27).
Tiramisu Gusto Fragola 4  (S$6.27)
Tiramisu Gusto Fragola 4  (S$6.27)
The difference between the Classic Chocolate Tiramisu and Strawberry Tiramisu are:
- instead of flakes of chocolate, generous chunks of strawberries were added on top;
- instead of coffee, strawberries were used; the biscuits were soaked with strawberry flavour.

The taste of the strawberries created an unique harmony with the the mascarpon and gave a lighter and sweeter experience! So Satisfying. We both agreed that if we had to choose between one, the Strawberry Tiramisu would have our votes.

If you are in Rome, Pompi Tiramisu is a must stop destination for a tiramisu fix! The Tiramisu here are divine! One of the best Tiramisu! No wonder they have self proclaimed themselves as the King of Tiramisu! Here's the good news, Pompi has several outlets in Rome. Remember, if you are visiting the Spanish Steps, all you need is to do a 10 minutes detour! We took 20 minutes as we detoured and walked about aimlessly.

This marks the end of my posts on Europe. I left Europe and proceeded to Dubai (UAE). For the FoodieFC's map on Europe in all the blog-posts, you can view it here.

Bliss Restaurant (Ang Mo Kio)

Bliss Restaurant used to be located at Punggol Park. One and a half years ago, they relocated to Chengsan Community Centre which is just a stone throw away from Ang Mo Kio MRT station. Less than 10 minutes walk away from the station, most of which was through a sheltered walk way.
Air-conditioned  - indoor (left), Alfresco area - outdoor  (right)
Bliss Restaurant offers customers with both indoor - air conditioned and outdoor - alfresco dining areas with a seating capacity of 300! On the day of visit, I noticed that more than half of the customers were seated at the alfresco dining area. Maybe it was because it was a cold day as it was raining an hour earlier.

Customers will be spoil for choice as Bliss Restaurant offers an extensive choice of dishes ranging from Starters, Appetizers, Sides, Pasta, Meat, Ocean,  Dessert, Waffle, Sundae and Drinks (Coffee, Tea, Hot & Cold Beverages, Float, Cocktail, Beer, Liquor).  As I had a hard time deciding what to order, I decided to seek recommendations from the staff. Click here to view their menu.
Ham & Cheese Stick $6.90
The Ham & Cheese Stick has been a Bliss Specialty Since 2001. It consisted of breaded chicken ham rolled with cheddar cheese. It was topped with fried curry leaves.
Ham & Cheese Stick $6.90
I was quite impressed with the Ham & Cheese Stick. Cutting it into half and stuffing a piece of curry leaf into it heightened the aroma to a whole new different level. The only issue I have is that the cheese seems to 'solidify' pretty fast. Maybe we took too long taking photos of it.
Mussel In White Wine (1 Dozen) $13.90
The Mussel In White Wine, a dozen of half shell mussels cooked with white wine, garlic and parsley. The mussels were big, fat, juicy and fresh.
Aglio Olio Smoked Pepper Duck with Squid Ink Tagliatelle $12.90
The Aglio Olio Smoked Pepper Duck was strongly recommended by the staff. I decided to order that but decided to order another type of pasta, which was the Aglio Olio Smoked Pepper Duck with Squid Ink Tagliatelle.
Aglio Olio Smoked Pepper Duck with Squid Ink Tagliatelle $12.90
Duck meat is normally tough. However, in this case, Bliss Restaurant's Smoked Pepper Duck was soft and tender (I wonder how they cooked it). As a whole, I thought that this dish was well-executed. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise the squid ink pasta did not taste have a very strong squid ink taste which could have overwhelmed the flavours from the Aglio Olio!
Gratin RibEye Steak $18.90
The Gratin RibEye Steak accompanied by baby potatoes and greens, was served with mushroom sauce  on sizzling a sotplate. Normally, it is served with cheddar cheese, however, we decided to switch it to mushroom sauce as the starter we had earlier already had cheddar cheese in it.
Gratin RibEye Steak $18.90 - Baby Potatoes
Gratin RibEye Steak $18.90 - greens
Was pleasantly surprised by the generosity of the ingredients given. Lots of greens, baby potatoes, onions (at the bottom of the steak) and a big piece of steak!

The mushroom sauce was heavenly. It had the right blend of sweetness, fragrant and seems to be accompanied by a slight herbal taste. A perfect complement for the steak, potatoes and onions. I polished off this whole plate!  The only 'glitch' was that the carrots were a tad too hard; could have been cooked a little longer.
Traditional Italian Tiramisu $6.90
Traditional Italian Tiramisu $6.90
The Traditional Italian Tiramisu, another Bliss Specialty Since 2001 was decent. Soft, moist and creamy with the right balance in taste.
Sea Salt Caramel Banana $7.90
Sea Salt Caramel Banana $7.90
The Sea Salt Caramel Banana consisted of sliced banana tossed with salty caramel sauce topped over freshly made waffle. Unlike most waffles I have eaten so far, Bliss Restaurant's version was was thick and fluffy. The whole waffle was topped with slices of bananas and sea salt caramel sauce. How I wish I could add a scope of ice cream over it!
Deadly K Meet Mr. Dark (Alcoholic Sundae) $7.90
Leaving the best for the last, the Deadly K Meet Mr. Dark; an alcoholic sundae was essentially dark chocolate ice cream swimming in kahlua bath accompanied with wholesome chunky rich brownies cubes and drizzled with chocolate fudge. I have never try / seen / hear of something like this before (mountain tortoise) and I am not a fan of alcoholic stuff. But yet the Deadly K Meet Mr. Dark stole the show! The more you dig into it, the more you will love it. Outstanding!

Overall, I was impressed with the dining experience at Bliss Restaurant. The food was good and the prices are reasonable too. Good news for those staying in the North., there's another place to visit! I am so glad that they have relocated to Ang Mo Kio!

Thanks Pamela for invite and hosting us.

Poulet French Restaurant (Bugis+)

Poulet is a new alfresco French causal dining restaurant opened by Thai Express in Bugis+ (former iluma). The name of this new restaurant, Poulet is a French word, which means chicken when translated. As you may guess from the name of the restaurant, it specialises in Poulet Roti (Roasted Chicken) served with home-made Mushroom Chardonnay Sauce. In addition, it aims to serve affordable French cuisine to the masses. With a open kitchen concept, diners can watch the chefs in action while they indulge in their meals.
Country Side Mushroom Soup $5.80
The Country Side Mushroom Soup consisted of cream of Wild Mushrooms and Idaho Potato. It was delectable, full of fragrant mushroom flavour with mushrooms bits in creamy sauce. Remind me of Tao's Restaurant's version.
French Onion Soup $5.80
The French Onion Soup was served with caramelised French Onion and Fond De Veau served with Cheese Croutons. I am not an expert in French Onion Soup, felt that it was a tad too sweet for me. But I certainly like the generous amount of caramelised onion given that ensure each mouthful was accompanied by  caramelised onion.
Escargot de Bourgogne $8.80
Escargot de Bourgogne consisted of half dozen Burgundy Snails served with Tomato Fondue and Almond Garlic Butter. At $8.80, it is quite reasonably priced. I felt that the flavour was not strong enough and as the flavour did not infused into the escargot.
Poulet Roti (Whole) $28.80
Poulet Roti, their signature roasted chicken was well executed. The bird was brined for a day in a traditional recipe before being placed in the rotisserie for a slow roast. It was superbly tender and moist. With the creamy home-made Mushroom Chardonnay Sauce, it was lip smacking! Worth a try.
Tiramisu $7.80
Tiramisu an Italian dessert was made from Mascarpone Cheese, Sponge Finger soaked in Espresso and Rum Syrup. The Tiramisu made freshly on a daily basis was served in a glass container. Thumbs up for the  presentation. This is a must order, nicely executed.

For a restaurant that has opened for just 1 month, I am won over by the food. During my visit on a weekday lunch hour, the restaurant was full. Service wise, there is room for improvement. It was hard to catch the attention of the staff during the lunch period. As for price, I personally thought that it was quite value for money for food of this quality.

Tao's Restaurant (PoMo) 2nd Post

Another visit to Tao's Restaurant located at the basement of PoMo (formerly known as Paradiz Centre). Tao's Restaurant is a fushion restaurant that serves a combination of Western and Asian Cuisine. It is well known for its concept of set menu; serving 6 to 7 course meal at affordable prices.

Modern classy design.

Menu
During my visit last year, I was expecting the price to increase. But to my surprise, there was no increase. Well, this year, there was an increase in price, which was expected. Their new menu now looks so classy!

Lunch: 6 Course Set Meal at $21.80++
Dinner: 7 Course Set Meal at $31.80++

I visited during lunch time with a group of friends (6 to be exact), hence it was a 6 Course Set Meal.
Starter - Bacon & Mushroom Gratin
Bread (2 pieces per person)
Course 1: Starter - Bacon & Mushroom Gratin with toasted bread (soft and fluffy). Bacon & Mushroom Gratin baked with mushroom, bacon and cheese. It was perfect using it as a spread on the bread. Delicious! You can request for more pieces of bread!
Salads - Prawn Roll with Pork Floss
Course 2: Salads - Prawn Roll with Pork Floss. Light, refreshing and sweet. It is akin to popiah. The pork floss inside added unique texture and taste to the prawn roll! I have also tried Top Shell Salad, Farm Boy Splendour and Fruit Salad during my past visits. My favourite is still Prawn Roll with Pork Floss!
Salads - Huai San & Tofu
Course 2: Salads - Huai San & Tofu. Will not comment on those that I did not taste.
Soups - Cream of Mushroom
Course 3: Soups - Cream of Mushroom. Another of my favourite! This bowl of soup is for mushrooms lovers only, contains 100% mushrooms! Chunks of mushrooms in each spoonful. The whole bowl of soup has a strong essence/flavour of mushroom. Definitely made themselves and different from the ones you get outside from cans. Can't help but notice that the bowl is the same colour as the bowl.
Soups - Cream of Pumpkin
Course 3: Soups - Cream of Pumpkin. I am a mushroom person! Having said that I am sure you know which soup I prefer.
Main Entrees - Spicy Stingray
Course 4: Main Entrees - Spicy Stingray. This stingray is different from those at Chomp Chomp, East Coast Park or other restaurants. The stingray was very fresh and well cooked. It was definitely not barbecued or fried. Most likely steamed? The sambal chilli on top was very spicy and certainty complement the stingray well. For those who can't take spicy food, you are strongly advised to avoid this!
Main Entrees - Grilled Sea Bass with Japanese Sauce
Course 4: Main Entrees - Grilled Sea Bass with Japanese Sauce. During our last visit, the staff actually informed us not to order this dish as the Sea Bass was not fresh. Where else will the staff tell you not to order certain dish as the ingredients are not fresh? So far this is the only place that I know that does this! Kudos to Tao's Restaurant.
Main Entrees - Slow-cooked Pork Back Ribs
Course 4: Main Entrees - Slow-cooked Pork Back Ribs
Desserts - Brownie with Ice Cream
Course 5: Desserts - Brownie with Ice Cream. Nothing to shout about for this dish.
Desserts - Tiramisu
Course 5: Desserts -  Tiramisu.
Desserts - Yangsheng Poached Pear with Red Dates
Course 5: Desserts - Yangsheng Poached Pear with Red Dates.
Beverages - Iced Rose Apple Tea (left), Iced Tropical Grapefruit Tea (right)
Course 6: Beverages - Iced Tropical Grapefruit Tea.
Beverages - Iced Rose Apple Tea
Course 6: Beverages - Iced Rose Apple Tea. This is my favourite! Refreshing, light drink with hints rose tea fragrant. Inside, there are pieces of apple (can be eaten) and rose buds.
Beverages - Iced Grassjelly Mint Tea
Course 6: Beverages - Iced Grassjelly Mint Tea

Despite the price increase, I still find the lunch at Tao's Restaurant value for money. I especially like the Bacon & Mushroom GratinPrawn Roll with Pork FlossCream of Mushroom SoupIced Rose Apple Tea and Tiramisu.
