Lim Soup (Bukit Merah Central)

Old Cucumber Pork Ribs Soup $4.50
We arrived at Lim Soup in Dong Fong Fatt Coffee Shop at 6pm on a Friday evening. Lim Soup specialises in serving healthy yet tasty soups.

The main purpose of our visit was to try its Double Boiled Old Coconut Chicken. However, we were told that the soup was sold out. In the end, I went over to the next stall to try the dry Minced Pork You Mian which was excellent! On the other hand, the partner ordered Old Cucumber Pork Ribs Soup $4.50 (which was one of the few soup left) and Organic Brown Rice $0.80.
Organic Brown Rice $0.80
The Organic Brown Rice which cost $0.80 comes with a generous helping of stir-fried cabbage topped with fried whitebait (silver fish). The brown rice was a tad too hard and dry.
Old Cucumber Pork Ribs Soup $4.50
The Old Cucumber Pork Ribs Soup $4.50 consists of ingredients such as old cucumber, almond seeds, red dates, Chinese wolfberries and pork ribs. The soup was such a disappointment. The soup was so sweet that it overwhelmed other flavours. I have never drank such sweet old cucumber soup before. In additional, the old cucumber seems to be layered (i.e. thinner). The only positive aspect was that the pork rib was tender. Needless to say, the partner regretted ordering this soup.

Hai Xian Zhu Zhou 海鲜煮粥 (Yishun)

Seafood Koka Noodles with Egg $5
Hai Xian Zhu Zhou 海鲜煮粥 is a stall located at a coffeeshop called Choh Dee Place in Yishun; along Yishun Street 21.
What makes Hai Xian Zhu Zhou stands out is its Koka Instant Noodles which is available with pork / chicken / seafood and/or tom yam flavour. The stall also sells crispy noodles, mee sua, ee mian and porridge.
Menu
The menu pasted at the side of the wall next to the stall stating the prices of the dishes. The Tom Yam Koka Noodles price was missing.
Left to right: Seafood Koka Noodles with Egg $5, Tom Yam Pork Koka Noodles with Egg $3.5
We visited on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. We had to wait for a good 20 minutes before our order was served. Do note, you would need to let them know your table number when ordering. We ordered the Seafood Koka Noodles with Egg $5 and Tom Yam Pork Koka Noodles with Egg $3.5.
Seafood Koka Noodles with Egg $5
The Seafood Koka Noodles with Egg $5 was presented nicely. The addition of the prawns added a bright vibrant colour to this dish. From the above photo, you might not have known that this was cooked with instant noodles if I had not told you!

There was a variety of seafood such as cuttlefish, sliced fish and prawns. Although the prawns were fresh, the sliced fish had a strong fishy taste. The soup had a strong hint of prawn flavour such that it masked the sweetness of the other seafood. The Koka Noodles was cooked just right; not too soft and not too hard, and the noodles was springy.
Tom Yam Pork Koka Noodles with Egg $3.5
This was the Tom Yam Pork Koka Noodles with Egg $3.5.
Tom Yam Pork Koka Noodles with Egg $3.5
It consisted of vegetables, sliced lean pork meat, minced meat and an egg. The Koka Noodles was cooked just right. As for the Tom Yam soup, if it was slightly less spicy, it would have been perfect. This was quite a good dish for a cold day.

Personally, we both preferred the Tom Yam Pork Koka Noodles. Instant Noodles had never tasted so delicious! Perfect excuse to eat instant noodles (in moderation - hopefully).
Chicken Porridge with Egg $3.50, Pork Porridge with Egg $3.50
During another visit on a Saturday, we decided to try their porridge for lunch.  We ordered the Chicken Porridge with Egg $3.50 and Pork Porridge with Egg $3.50
Chicken Porridge with Egg $3.50
Chicken Porridge with Egg $3.50
The Chicken Porridge with Egg $3.50 was served with chunks of chicken meat, egg, chopped coriander, fried shallots, You Tiao (deep fried dough fritters), and a dash of soya sauce and pepper. The porridge was disappointing. It was watery, tasteless and not heated up enough such that the raw egg which was added could not even get cooked properly.
Pork Porridge with Egg $3.50
Pork Porridge with Egg $3.50
The Pork Porridge with Egg $3.50 was served with slices of lean meat, minced meat and liver. It was also watery and tasteless. Enough said..

The porridge at Hai Xian Zhu Zhou was such a let down. You would be better off ordering their Koka Instant noodles.

K.Cook Korean BBQ Buffet 고뷔페 (Orchard Central)

K.Cook Korean BBQ Buffet 고기 뷔페 is a Korean BBQ buffet restaurant in Orchard Central (Somerset MRT station) which started operation in August 2014.
I visited on a weekday for lunch. Being Kiasu (as usual), I made called the restaurant beforehand and was told that they no longer accept reservations. Hence, we went 10 minutes early, at 11.20 am before the restaurant opened. Everyone seemed to have thought like-wise. There was a queue of more than 10 persons when we arrived.

When the restaurant opened, the queue stretched to more than 20 persons long. I was wondering how come everyone was not working and if they were like me (who applied for leave).
K.Cook Korean BBQ Buffet offers both air conditioned and alfresco (outdoor) areas. The seating capacity at the air condition area was way smaller compared to the alfresco area. We chose to sit outdoors as there was a Big Ass Fan (High volume slow speed fan) which made the area so well ventilated. Even though it was noon, it did not felt hot. In addition, you get a clear view of the city.
Prices
The prices for the buffet are show above. The price for weekday (Mon to Fri) lunch at $14.90++ was so value for money!
Corn
Korean rice cake with fish cake
The buffet consist of a wide variety of cooked and raw food. In the cooked food section, there was Corn, Korean rice cake with fish cake, japchae (glass noodles), Korean pancake, fried chicken wings and spicy tofu stew.

We went for more than 1 servings of Korean rice cake with fish cake and japchae (glass noodles) as these were delicious. We did not manage to try the fried chicken wings, as these were taken as soon as they were replenished.

At the raw food section there were Marinated Beef Short Rib, Beef Bulgogi, Pork Belly, Pork Collar, Marinated Pork Collar, Chicken, Spicy Chicken, Chicken Sausages, squids and prawns.
As with all korean buffet, there was a section with vegetables (lettuce), mushrooms, onions, radish and kimchi.

Besides these, there was also fruits and salad section and a counter for drinks.
Chicken, Pork Collar, Prawns, Squids
Look at how thickly sliced the Pork Collars are. This is by far the thickest sliced Pork Collar I had for a buffet. Most other buffets would slice their meat thinly.
Beef  Bulgogi and Pork Belly
The Pork Belly was also of decent thickness which the Beef Bulgogi was well marianted.
With the large pan, it was easy cooking the food. We started off with the Pork Belly so that fats would grease the pan.
Food wise, it was impressive. The Pork Collar and Pork Belly of good thickness allowed the juices and flavours to be retained in the meat. Basically for the raw food, we spammed the Pork Belly, Pork Collar, Beef Bulgogi and mushrooms.

For a Korean buffet, the cooked food and the raw food were quite good. One of the better Korean buffet I have tried. Worth going back for more considering the price and quality.

Vanda Terrace (Orchid Country Club) 2nd Post

Hainanese Chicken Rice $8.50
This is my second post on Vanda Terrace at Orchid Country Club. The first post can be found here. In a few words, Vanda Terrace is essentially an Alfresco dining outlet serving local cuisines.
A notification system for calling the staff or asking for the bill. This is becoming common in F&B outlets with the tightening of the foreign labor employment. If you take a look around you whenever you eat out, you would likely have noticed the after effects of such a policy. Many F&B outlets have close down because of labour or rental issues. Well.. lets go back to the food.
Hainanese Chicken Rice $8.50
Since I was here for lunch, I had to order the Hainanese Chicken Rice $8.50. It has been years since I ate this chicken rice. The reasons being that it would normally be sold out after lunch time and I visit during dinner time. The Hainanese Chicken Rice consisted of chicken rice, steamed chicken, soup and garlic-chilli dip served in individual bowls/plates.
Hainanese Chicken Rice $8.50
Vanda Terrace does not serve roasted chicken. They serve only steamed chicken. The steamed chicken was cooked perfectly; so succulent and delicious. In addition, the portion given was so generous and meaty (not layered). As for the chicken rice, it was fragrant and not overly oily. The Hainanese Chicken Rice did not disappoint. Yummy!
Laksa Paradise $7.90
Every time we visit, someone is bound to order the Laksa Paradise $7.90.
Laksa Paradise $7.90
Consisting of thick beehoon, prawns, cockles, fish cake slices, chicken, quail eggs, bean sprouts and dried beancurd, this laksa was another dish that never disappoint. It may not be the best, but it was certainly above average. Worth the calories.
 Javanese Chicken Curry $9.90
Another regular item which we frequently order is the Javanese Chicken Curry $9.90.
 Javanese Chicken Curry $9.90
The main item in this dish is the Chicken Leg in cooked in Javanese curry. There are so many types of curry. This version is spicy, sweet with a hint of lemongrass and cinnamon spices. The curry itself is very addictive and it goes perfectly with plain rice. As for the chicken leg, it was cooked just right. So tender!
Oriental-Style Chicken Wings
Oriental-Style Chicken Wings which was crispy and well marinated.

A breathtaking view of the Golf Course from our table. =D

Ah Chiang's Porridge 阿昌粥 (Toa Payoh)

Mix Pork Porridge with Egg $4
Ah Chiang's Porridge 阿昌粥 first started operation at at Tiong Poh Road in the 70s selling Cantonese style porridge. Today, it has two outlets; one at Toa Payoh while the other - the original stall is still at Tiong Poh Road.
We visited the outlet at Toa Payoh which is 5 minutes away from Toa Payoh MRT station.
Menu
Mix Pork Porridge with Egg $4
I ordered a bowl of Mix Pork Porridge with Egg $4.
Mix Pork Porridge with Egg $4
It came with minced pork meat, liver and small and big intestines. The servings of pork was very little. Take for example, there was just 1 slice of small and big intestines. I normally add an egg into my bowl of porridge to give it a creamier texture. The porridge was cooked till it was thick and smooth. Taste wise, I was not impressed. It was lacking in taste and flavour.
Century Egg Chicken Porridge $4.50
The partner ordered a bowl of Century Egg Chicken Porridge $4.50. The serving of shredded chicken was limited compared to the century egg.

To sum this up, I was quite disappointed with what I had as I had expected more
