Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle 文尼城市面粉粿

Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle 文尼城市面粉粿 specialises in serving homemade (handmade) noodles (the likes of ban mian, you mian).  The stall is located in the food court of City Plaza at level 5. If City Plaza rings a bell among foodies, that could be because this is where our very own local fast food; Arnold's Fried Chicken is located at.  The food court is not easily accessible unless you are familiar with the area; City Plaza.
They offer a wide variety of noodles ranging from Ban Mee, You Mian, Mee Sua, Bee Hoon to Bean Flour Noodle.

After you have ordered, a bright red number tag will be given to you. All you have to do next is to find a table, display the tag clearly and wait for your bowl of noodles.
Abalone Clam Hand Made Yu Mee $5
The Abalone Clam Hand Made Yu Mee comes in either $4 or $5. In the $5 version you can either ask for more ingredients or more Yu Mee (You Mian). In my case, I choose the $5 version and asked for more Yu Mee.

The last time I had a meal in this stall was in 2008. Everything looks the same except that the price has increased.
Abalone Clam Hand Made Yu Mee $5
Inside the piping hot bowl of Abalone Clam Hand Made Yu Mee, there were abalone clams, vegetable, minced meat, sliced mushrooms was topped with ikan bilis. The stall used New Moon Razor Clams for its Abalone Clam Hand Made Yu Mee, 3 pieces were given.

The hand made noodles made themselves was soft and tasty. In addition, the broth was robust and tasty. I drank practically all of it. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients (meat, vegetable, ikan bilis) given. A very generous amount of vegetable was given, much more than other hand made noodles stalls. The noodles given was alot too, almost 50% more than other stalls. The only down side I would say is the mushroom. This sounds weird coming from a mushroom lover. Well..the reason is because the dried mushroom was hard and salty.
The freshly made thick chilli paste was very spicy yet addictive. I like to dip the minced meat or eat the paste without anything. Despite the spiciness (my mouth was literally burning), I could not stop eating this!

This has got to be one of the best (if not better) home made noodles stall in Singapore. I enjoyed the meal and the price tag of $5 is certainly worthwhile. I wish that I am located nearby and can come by daily for lunch.

Arnold's Fried Chicken (City Plaza)

*Edited Mar 2014: Paris Outlet has closed down*

When it comes to fast food fried chicken, I am sure most of us have eaten or heard of  KFC, Popeyes and Texas Chicken. What about Singapore's very own fast food; Arnold's Fried ChickenArnold's Fried Chicken specialises in serving fried chicken, has been around for more than 25 years and is one of the first Singapore fast food joint to be certified Halal.
A visit to Arnold's Fried Chicken (Main Branch at City Plaza) on a weekday for lunch. Look at how crowded the place is! You will need to queue up and wait for an empty table.

Once you have been assigned an empty table, make your order at the counter before going back to your seat.

Expect to wait 15 to 25 minutes as the fried chicken are cooked upon order!
Half Spring Chicken Set $5.90 and 1 Root Beer $1.90
Ordered Half Spring Chicken Set which consist of 1/2 young chicken which is marinated and deep fried served with Potato Fries and Mashed Potato (should actually be Coleslaw, but I requested for a change). I also ordered a Root Beer to quench my thirst!
Half Spring Chicken Set $5.90
The Spring Chicken was served pipping hot. The chicken was fried perfectly! On the outside, it (skin) was crispy. On the inside, it was very tender, soft and juicy! It was a surprise to me that all the parts of the chicken was so tender and soft. Normally even for KFC, there will be certain parts of the chicken that are hard and dry. But this was not the case for Arnold's Fried Chicken. How did they do it? However, in terms of the marination; usage of herbs and spices, KFC's eleven herbs and spices fare better. The mashed potato and fries are average, nothing to shout about.

Overall, I quite like the chicken at Arnold's Fried Chicken. Now I know why everyone has been raving about this place! If you are coming here, you must order their chicken! So soft, so tender, so juicy and it is freshly cooked! They need to open one outlet at the North!

They have 3 outlets at the moment. For the locations please refer to the end of the post. Arnold's Fried Chicken does delivery too.

Chee Kong Cheng Tng (Geylang Serai)

This is a Chinese own stall in Geyland Serai Market for more than 40 years. Chee Kong is the Malay translation of the popular Chinese dessert called Cheng Tng. In fact, I was told that this is the best dessert stall in the market.

Menu

Cold Chee Kong (Cheng Tng) $2
Naturally, I ordered Chee Kong (Cheng Tng). It provided a good relief against the heat and the spicy food. Helped to quench my thirst. Inside, it was  full of different ingredients such as sweet potato, gingko nuts, barley, sugared winter-melon sticks, lotus seeds and white fungus. It was not too sweet and flavourful (from the variety of ingredients). Quite delicious and different from the cheng tng that I have normally eaten. Give this a try when you pass by the Geylang Serai Market.
