Yuba Hut (Northpoint City)

Champion Floss Maki $9.90
Yuba Hut is a fast causal Japanese restaurant. Interestingly, the restaurant has expanded quickly since its inception, opening its third outlet at Northpoint City, Yishun. The first two outlets are located at Heartland Mall and Hillion Mall.
Menu

Yuba Hut serves modern Japanese fusion cuisine such as Aburi-style Makis, Don and Sashimi.

Champion Floss Maki $9.90
This is its signature Aburi-style Maki; Champion Floss Maki $9.90. This Maki is full of ingredients. The sushi rolls are wrapped with aburi-styled (torched) salmon slices and topped with mayonnaise sauce, chicken floss and fish roe. With the ingredients, they provided different dimensions in taste and texture. You get to taste the crunchy roes followed creamy sauce and the soft salmon slices and sushi roll in one mouthful. Oishi!
Beef Steak Don $15.90
The Beef Steak Don $15.90 consists of beef steak slices with onsen egg on top of rice. The steak was surprisingly soft and tender although it was well done. The addition of the onsen egg enhanced the creaminess and flavour of the don.
Salmon Aburi Don $14.90
The Salmon Aburi Don $14.90 is another signature dish at Yuba Hut. It is essentially aburi-styled salmon slices with fish roe on top of the rice. Light sauce was also added into the rice bowl and also used as decoration along the sides of the bowl. I was not blown away by this don. In fact, I was disappointed that it was so salty. Even though I was cautious not to mix all the light sauce with the rice, the don was just too salty for my liking. The Beef Steak Don $15.90 definitely tasted way better.

Yuba Hut is worth a try. If you are someone like me who dislike salty dishes, I would advise you to either avoid ordering the Salmon Aburi Don or make a request for them not to add light soy sauce.

Koh Grill & Sushi Bar (Wisma Atria)

Koh Grill & Sushi Bar located at level 4 of Wisma Atria Shopping Centre, next to Food Republic Food Court probably needs no introduction. It's Shiok!!! Maki has been highly raved about on the social media. This sushi bar can get very crowded during peak periods and it is advisable to make reservations during these periods.
I have heard so much about Koh Grill & Sushi Bar for quite a few years but had not have the chance to visit although it is centrally located; near ION Orchard. After much procrastination, we made reservations and proceed to visit during lunch on a weekday. I was surprised that there was no queue.
Pitan Tofu $4
The Pitan (Century Egg) Tofu $4; chilled tofu served with homemade paste was unique.
Pitan Tofu $4
The paste had a very strong unique century egg flavour. It provided a strong taste to the bland tofu. In addition, the tobiko (roe) provided a distinct crunchy texture of the soft tofu. I quite like the taste of this dish. Do note if you are not a fan of century egg, you are likely to dislike this dish as the flavour of the century egg is overwhelming.
Aspara Buta Maki $3
The Aspara Buta Maki $3 was essentially charcoal grilled Asparagus Pork Belly Roll.
Aspara Buta Maki $3
Although it was slightly charrred on the other side, I liked the fact that the asparagus retained its crunchiness providing a different texture. In addition, it had a smoky flavour.
Shiok!!! Maki $16.80
We ordered the highly raved about signature Shiok!!! Maki $16.80 sushi. Its photo appears in nearly 80% of all photos in Instagram and Facebook tagged with the name of this restaurant. Priced at $16.80, the Shiok!!! Maki was not cheap. It comprised of a combination of charcoal grilled eel, avocado, sushi rice wrapped with lightly roasted salmon and topped with cheesy mayonnaise and generous serving of tobiko (roe).
Shiok!!! Maki $16.80
After trying a piece of Shiok!!! Maki, I was won over. The combination of taste and texture was heavenly. It was hard to stop at one. Now I know why this had been widely raved about. Its never too late!
Sukiyaki Beef with Ramen $16
The Sukiyaki Beef with Ramen $16 consisted of a mixture of assorted vegetables, tofu, beef and ramen in broth.
Sukiyaki Beef with Ramen $16
This was easily the worst dish. Nothing fantastic and it did not appeal to us. The other 3 dishes were just too outstanding. It did not help that the homemade broth was on the salty end.

Overall, the food was decent. I liked three out of the four dishes ordered. Mainly, because we did our research before coming (it was not hard, there are so many reviews on this place). We will be back for more!

Todai Singapore - International Seafood And Sushi Buffet Restaurant (Marina Bay Sands)

Todai Singapore an international seafood and sushi buffet restaurant opened at Marina Bay Sands in 2011. It  is an international brand with presence in United States, Hong Kong and China South Korea, and has been hailed as 'The Mother of All Seafood Buffet' by a famous food critic. Todai Singapore presence in Singapore has not been exactly smooth sailing. In late 2011, a group of customers had food poisoning after consuming the oysters in Todai. Those who followed the news would have known that the Todai's management responded quickly and compensated the customers. It was heartening to note that they did not reacted negatively or defensively.

I have been wanting to visit Todai Singapore as I am a fan of Seafood. I have to try this 'mother of all seafood buffet'!
Todai Singapore is located at the corner of the basement of Marina Bay Sands (the portion nearer to Bayfront MRT station entrance / Exhibition Center).
Abalone Festival and Alaskan Crab Buffet
Todai's June Premium Abalone Festival
For the month of May and June, Todai held a Premium Abalone Festival along with Alaskan Crab Buffet.
Stepping into the restaurant, I was most impressive with the long line of buffet spread. Todai Singapore had quite an extensive spread of food. The seating capacity was huge! Even on a weekend, they restaurant had just 50%  of the tables occupied.

There were Salads & Cold Cuts, Sushi & Sashimi, Cold Seafood, Italian Pizza & Pasta, Brazilian Churassco, Korean food, Noodles, Western food, Chinese food, Deep Fry and Desserts.
King Crab, Snow Crab and Red Crab

Baby Octopus, Green Mussuel, Scallop
The King Crab, Snow Crab and Red Crab section, and the Baby Octopus, Green Mussuel, Scallop (Cold Seafood) section were the most popular sections.
Desserts and Macaroons
Todai Singapore had a unique way of displaying the Macaroons in the shape of a pyramid. The dessert section was next to it.
Food from the Cold Seafood section; Snow Crab, Abalone, Baby Octopus, Green Mussel and Scallop. The Snow Crab was great! Fresh and sweet! The best item among all the food in the Cold Seafood section. The mussel was average. The first batch of Scallop was very fresh. However, the subsequent batches were not as good.
Abalone
The highlight for the month was supposed to be the Abalone. It was small in size and taste wise was not impressive. The snow crab stole the limelight.
Abalone Porridge
The Abalone Porridge was tasty, flavourful and not diluted. Although there were only a few pieces of abalone bits in it, it was surprisingly delish.
Sushi and Salmon Sashimi

The Sushi seen in the above photo was just the tip of the ice berg. There were more different varieties of sushi available.
Western food

Deep Fry food
The Grill Lamb Rack and La Galbi (Beef Short Rib) were tough and hard. The other sections in the Deep Fry section was equally disappointing. Especially the Vegetable Tempura which had a thick coat of batter and were oily. The Miso Shisamo with Gratin Sauce had such a fishy smell that I did not finish it.
Salmon Steak with Digon Sauce
The Salmon Steak with Digon Sauce fared better.
Abalone Gratin with Salad

Abalone Gratin
The Abalone Gratin was a hard to get item. I walked past the counter several times to try to land my hands on it. They replaced this item at a very slow rate. Out of all the abalone items (Abalone, Abalone Porridge, Abalone Gratin), the Abalone Gratin was the most disappointing.
Churassco food
 The Churassco section.
Churassco and Italian food
The food at the Churassco section was incredibly oily. Even the mushroom was soak fully of oil. The chicken wings were overcooked and tasteless. The Italian food fared much better compared to the food at the Churassco section.

I went back for more of the abalones and snow crabs. The Snow Crab was the only item which I went back several times for. Look at how big they are.
Desserts and Macarons
 The Macarons were not bad.
Ice Cream
I need to improve in using the ice cream machine. The ice cream was quite delish!

Overall, I only like Todai Singapore for their King Crab, Snow Crab, Red Crab and Ice Cream. Although there was a wide variety of food, I did not fancy most of the food. As we ate during lunch on a weekend, after adding up all the additional charges, the bill came up to $75.33 nett per person. Quite pricey, I would be better off going to Kuishinbo if I was to just spam on the Snow Crab (which was what I did).

The Seared Tuna Belly Sushi and Shin Yuu Special Aburi Sushi (Salmon) were fantastic - a must try. The Seared Tuna Belly Sushi was a complimentary item that cannot be ordered a second time. The Shin Yuu Special Aburi Sushi (Salmon) was a seared salmon sushi with a smear of mentaiko sauce that brought this item to a whole new level. It was perfect with a melt in the mouth sensation. Luckily the Shin Yuu Special Aburi Sushi can be ordered multiple times!
Shin Yuu Special Aburi Sushi (Salmon)
Another round of Shin Yuu Special Aburi Sushi (Salmon).
Complimentary Fried Sliver Fish
Shin Yuu Special Chawanmushi
Shin Yuu Special Chawanmushi - steamed egg with salmon roe. Definitely one of the better Chawanmushi around topped with mushroom and generous amount of salmon roe! In addition, it was not salty. Had 2 servings of this.
Sashimi Moriawase (Mixed Platter)
Sashimi Moriawase consist of an assortment of Maguro(Tuna), Hiramasa (Kingfish), Shake (Salmon), Mekajiki (Swordfish) and Tako(Octopus). I must say that the Sashimi was very fresh. Sashimi fans will love this!
Shin Yuu Special Makimono (Unagi Rolls with Avocado)
Shin Yuu Special Makimono is another must try it is Unagi Rolls with Avocado. Very good combination. Soft and delicate pieces that will break apart if not handled with care. We ordered this despite the fact that there is just the two of us. Testimonial to how much we love this dish!
Wafu Steak
Cubes of soft, tender and juicy Wafu Steak! Another must try.
Spare Ribs Teriyaki
What happened to the Spare Ribs Teriyaki which I had during my previous visit? This time it was dry, salty with little meat. Give this a skip.
Kani Karage (Soft Shell Crab)
Tebasaki
Tebasaki; Grilled Chicken Wings, marinated with honey! Soft, tender, juicy and well-marinated. If you like chicken wings, order this.
Shishamo
Shishamo, also known as pregnant fish was grilled. It is fresh, no fishy taste and filled with roe! This is my favourite and I had over a dozen of this!
Green Salad in Special Dressing
When we were around 70% full, we ordered the Green Salad in Special Dressing. Great dish that acted as an appetiser so that we can have more food. In addition, it was delightfully tasty. Who said that greens can't be delicious. We had 2 servings of this! Yummy!
Zaru Soba (Cold Buckwheat Noodles)
Tempura
This is actually from the Yasai Tempura (Vegetable Fritters). However, we request for only sweet potato (purple potato)! Had 2 servings of this too!
Kuruma Ebi Teriyaki
Kuruma Ebi Teriyaki; Tiger Prawn with Sweet Soy Sauce. Well, you can give this a miss.

Overall, Shin Yuu is still one of my favourite place for buffet as the quality of the food is quite good (Normally in buffets, quality is compromised). Great food, great service (plates are frequently changed, green tea is frequently refilled, orders are taken and served efficiently). My favourites are Seared Tuna Belly Sushi,Shin Yuu Special Aburi SushiShin Yuu Special ChawanmushiShin Yuu Special Makimono, Wafu SteakTebasaki, Shishamo, Green Salad and Tempura (sweet potato)!
