Tiong Shian Porridge 長城粥品 (New Bridge Road) 2nd Post

Another visit to Tiong Shian Porridge located near Chinatown MRT station along New Bridge Road.
Tiong Shian Porridge needs no introduction among foodies. Readers of FoodieFC would have known that I am a great fan of this place. Despite living in the North, I still find myself (with her) making a special trip down here. (I am a foodie!!) For the benefit of doubt, Tiong Shian Porridge specialises in serving porridge and claypot frog leg! Yet again, during this visit, the place is packed!
The lady who determines if you get 1 piece more or less meat.
Raw Fish in the freezer
Look at the number of plates of Raw Fish in the freezer!

Here's how to order: Find a empty table (or share a table). Make your order at the cashier and inform them of your table number. Lastly, pay and wait for it to be delivered to you. We waited for around 20 minutes this time before getting our food. Lucky us! During our last visit, we waited for half-an-hour.
Raw Fish (small) $3.90
Tiong Shian Porridge is also know for its Raw Fish. You can observe this for yourself when you are there. Almost every one orders this! The Raw Fish consist of slices of raw fish, chilli, ginger, lettuce, spring onions and shallots. All you need to do is to squeeze the lime juice and mix the ingredients up! The fish is fresh with no fishy taste. This is a must order! For just $3.90 you get so many pieces of raw fish and it taste so yummy.
Braised Bean Curd $2.60
We observed that most people ordered the Braised Bean Curd (Lou Bean Curd). Hence, we decided to order one too. The Braised Bean Curd was unique. It was very soft, and silky smooth on the inside. The sauce on top complement the dish well especially when paired with plain porridge. Add in the chilli at the side to give it a spice it up.
Shredded Chicken Porridge $3.20
The Shredded Chicken Porridge was on the salty end. However, I must mention that the shredded chicken was well marinated and cooked. Very flavourful and soft chicken meat!
Dried Chilli Frog Leg $8.00
Ordered Dried Chilli Frog Leg again. Right amount of sweetness and spiciness. The frog (meat) was tender and flavourful having adsorbed the sauce. Delicious!
Plain Porridge $0.60
As usual, I ordered a bowl of Plain Porridge for myself. The reason for ordering this is to add the sauce from Dried Chilli Frog Leg and the frog leg into this! It will transform into the best plain porridge ever.

Again, Tiong Shian Porridge is one of my favourite food destination especially for porridge or claypot frog leg.  The down side is that you have to be prepared to sweat it out eating this as this place is not air-conditioned. (this is something worth sweating for). Should you have difficulty finding seats, there's level 2!

Warong Nasi Pariaman

Warong Nasi Pariaman is located at the junction of North Bridge Road and Kandahar Street, at a shopouse at 738 North Bridge Road. It is near the Sultan Mosque. It is one of the oldest nasi padang stall in Singapore, starting its busines in 1948! (thats way way older than me).Nasi Padang is similar to what the chinese know as zi char or economic rice. In addition, Nasi Padang food are know for being cooked with lots of spices, lemon grass, coconut, lime and chilli.
Having such a long history, the stall has a huge loyal customer base. Although there was limited sitting capacity, most people also order takeaway. Judge the queue for yourself this is the takeaway queue. The place was packed when we went over during lunch time.

First visit
This was what we ate during our first visit here.
Second visit
Third visit
The food was so delicious that we ate here for the 2nd consecutive working day.
Begedils
Begedil
Begedils is the malay name for potato patties. One begedil  for each of us. Can’t help that I am crazy about potato, the begedil was delicious and spring onion is a must for this. The Little Teochew Blog has a post on how to cook this.
Ayam Bakar
Ayam Bakar is a must eat at this stall. Ayam Bakar consist of grilled chicken served in a mildly spicy thick coconut milk gravy also know as korma gravy. The chicken is first cooked in the gravy. It is then grilled. Just before serving, gravy is poured over the chicken.

The ayam bakar was sedap(delicious in Malay)! The meat was soft and tender despite being grilled. And the grilling gave different textures to the chicken, crispy on the outside and soft inside. The gravy packed a punch of oomph compliment the chicken and even with rice.

Sambal Goreng
Another signature dish of Warong Nasi Pariaman is the Sambal Goreng. Sambal Goreng is a mixture of long bean, tempeh and fried beancurb. Almost every table had this! Very addictive!

Egg Omelette
Egg Omelette was delicious but it was quite oily.
Mutton Redang
Mutton Redang was soft and tender. Although it was not a signature dish, it would still have been a hit at any other shops. The food here is just too good that the limelight has been cannibalised by other dishes.

Teh Tarik
Nothing like a cup of Teh Tarik to end the meal on a good note.
If you are looking for authentic Malay food that packs a punch, Warong Nasi Pariaman is the place to go. Sedap! Their signature dishes are  Ayam Bakar, Sambal Goreng, Ikan Bakar and Beef Redang. Besides being delicious, it is relatively cheap. Cheap and delicious, what more can anyone ask for. Clearly, it is a die die must try place.

Sembawang White Beehoon (Sembawang 白米粉)

Good news, for foodies in the North! Sembawang White Beehoon previously was under-going renovation. Now the renovation has ended and the shop is now open for business! The shop is located directly opposite Sembawang Shopping Centre. It has been featured in several newspapers and magazines. This place is crowded during lunch or dinner time. And it is hard to find parking space.
Exterior (From Sembawang 白米粉 Facebook profile picture)
Interior
Look at the change after the renovation. Now it look so bright, clean and ‘white’.
Queue
Now, there’s a queue system. Waited about 20minutes in this queue. More orderly and fair, allowing customers to make an order prior to getting a seat. Its much better this way from the owners’  and customers’ point of view. For owners, turnabout time is decreased as customers no longer sit down and decide on what to order. For customers already sitting down and eating, no pressure of people standing next to you waiting for you to finish up.
Lime juice $1.50 per mug
Ordered lime juice. Do note, the drink stall is now located at the interior of the stall. So do not order from when you ordering the main dishes as they are two separate entity. Was told that many people tried to ordered drinks when they were ordering the dishes as they did not see the drink stall and assumed that it was now one entity.

Menu
Same old menu =) Glad there was no price increase despite the renovation. Waited for about another 10-20 minutes for the food to arrive after getting a table.

Seafood White Beehoon $7.00
The signature Seafood White Beehoon. The $7 portion is just nice for 2 person to share. The beehoon was cooked with a rich wok-hei flavour, soft and delicious. With generous and fresh ingredients such as prawns, squids, vegetables and pieces of fried egg. The gravy was light yet tasty. Its a simple and light dish that was cooked to perfection. Have never eaten beehoon that was cooked in this way. This is a must order if you come here.
Sambal Chili Sauce (left)
Great Sambal Chili Sauce that is spicy and sour, is not the same as those that are available in the chicken rice. Totally love this sauce! This sauce complements the beehoon well! Of course, the beehoon taste great alone without any sauce.

Bittergourd Omelette (Wet) $5.00
I am  a huge fan of bittergourd. Most of my peers do not like that. I am lucky she do eats that too, hence we can order bittergourd =). This portion might be quite biased. The Bittergourd Omelette taste delicious. The bittergourd was cooked to perfection, it was not hard nor was it too soft. In some eateries, their bittergourds are hard, meaning that it was cooked too quickly. The egg as you can see was not over cooked, it was soft and in small pieces. Great dish, you can see effort was put into cooking this dish.

Egg Toufu with Mixed Vegetable $10.00
This dish was just average as the other 2 dishes were really so awesome that I do not remember any amazing about this dish. Do not be mistaken that this dish is lousy. But I would say that this dish seems abit too costly at $10.00. Making it the most expensive dish for the night.

We might have over ordered for 2 person. Was very full after finishing the meal. A great meal that was light, healthy and delicious. Similar to home cook food as the dishes are so simple and hearty. .In terms of price, it was not expensive, definitely value for money. This place is definitely worth a try for a Cze Char selling this quality of food, its a rare gem. After eating it, I am sure that you will be craving for their signature Seafood White Beehoon and wish you found out about this shop much earlier.
