Lao Ban Soya Beancurd 老伴豆花 (Maxwell Food Centre)

Visited Lao Ban Soya Beancurd at Maxwell. As usual, there was a queue at the stall.

Menu with Price
Menu showing what is available and the price.
Now, they display the number the beancurds left in the fridge so that customers do not queue and get disappointed when stocks run out. In the above photo, it shows that there are just 50 Almond Beancurd left. Good initiative!
Original Beancurd $1.50
A thin film like layer on the top. Anyone knows what causes this?

Well, I have tried many other similar kinds of beancurds, Lao Ban's version is still the best so far. In terms of taste and melt in the mouth sensation, theirs is unbeatable.

I have tried to made this several times, but I must admit I am nowhere near to Lao Ban's version. Mine is closer to 51 Soya Bean in terms of taste. Click here for the chilled beancurd recipe.

If anyone has any idea or knows the recipe for Lao Ban's version please let me know! Thanks!

Lastly, they have opened a new outlet at One Raffles Place!

Ban Mee (Coleman Street Food Centre)

*Edited on Sept 2013: Closed*

I was wondering around Peninsula Shopping Centre when I chanced upon Coleman Street Food Centre.
Coleman Street Food Centre
If you noticed the above picture. It looks like this is a new food centre as previously, this place was called Choon Sheng Seafood Kitchen.
Coleman Street Food Centre is brightly lit and clean. Tables arranged in rows to maximise the capacity. Looks new. There was still a few empty stalls available for rent.
I decided to buy homemade noodles from the Ban Mee stall.
You Mian $3.00
At $3.00 the You Mian is quite value for money as most outlets sell this at a much higher price. The lowest I have came across so far is $2.80. This is a decent bowl of You Mian (Ban Mian). The broth was tasty, not salty. Each strand of noodle was well separated and flavourful. Moreover, generous portion of vegetables and minced meat was given.

If you are working in the area looking for cheap food, this is a value for money alternative.
