Paradise Dynasty (Causeway Point)

Paradise Dynasty has opened a new outlet in Causeway Point after it under went an extensive renovation. The group now has so many outlets that I have lost count how many outlets it has.
The World's First 8 Flavoured Xiao Long Bao
This restaurant chain serves the The World's First 8 Flavoured Xiao Long Bao. As we have tried it before, we gave this a skip.
Neatly arrange on every table. Customers can fill in the dishes they want and also indicate the quantity before passing it to one of the staff.
Drunken Chicken $7.80
The Drunken Chicken $7.80 was served chilled with Chinese Wine (Hua Tiao Jiu). The meat was succulent and flavourful. However, it was a little too uncooked for my liking.
La Mian with Sliced Pork $9.80
The partner ordered a bowl of La Mian with Sliced Pork $9.80 which was served in their signature pork bone soup. The La Mian was delicious and each strand was uniformly thin. It would have been perfect if the La Mian was cooked a little longer so that it could be softer. Overall, a very decent bowl of La Mian.
La Mian served with Deep Fried Chicken Chop $9.80
I ordered the La Mian with Deep Fried Chicken Chop $9.80. The Chicken Chop was served on a separate plate so that it would not be soaked in the pork bone soup.
La Mian served with Deep Fried Chicken Chop $9.80
This bowl of La Mian was similar to the one my partner had. The only difference was that instead of pork slices, this came with fried chicken chop.
Deep Fried Chicken Chop
The Deep Fried Chicken Chop was very well marinated. The exterior had a thin layer of batter which was so tasty and crisp. As for the interior, it was tender and juicy.

Surprisingly with Paradise Group's expansion, they have managed to ensure consistency.

Ramen Keisuke Tori King (100 AM)

Ramen Keisuke Tori King is an eatery that serves authentic Japanese ramen opened by Mr Keisuke Takeda who has won several ramen competitions. Mr Keisuke Takeda has opened several ramen eateries in Singapore such as the Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King (Orchid Hotel and Bugis) and Gyoza King (Orchid Hotel).
As we were at the 100AM shopping mall (Tanjong Pagar), we decided to give this a try. We were there at 630pm and there was no queue. But by the time we left at close to 8pm, there was a short queue.
Menu
The menu.
There would be a bottle of cold marinated bean sprouts and basket of boiled eggs on every table. There would also be slip of paper for each individual to fill in their orders along with a small bowl and a wooden stick for grinding the sesame seeds (just like Saboten). Pepper and bonito flakes are available at each table too.
Hard Boiled eggs
Free flow of hard boiled eggs.
Bean Sprout
Free flow of cold marinated bean sprouts. Do not under estimate this dish dish. It was very addictive. So tasty and so crunchy. We kept on opening the bottle to take more out!
Tori King Ramen Special (All Toppings) $15.90
The partner ordered Tori King Ramen Special (All Toppings) $15.90. It included all the toppings such as seaweed, flavoured egg and pork.
Black Spicy Tori King Ramen Special (All Toppings) $16.90
I ordered the Black Spicy Tori King Ramen Special (All Toppings) $16.90. The main different was that this was the spicy version. To be frank, both of us did not like these two bowls of ramen. The stock was too thick and the saltiness just overwhelmed the other flavours in the stock. The only positive aspect was the drumstick which was meaty and tender. Other than that the other ingredients were average.

Ironically, we preferred the marinated bean sprouts more than the main dish. Service wise, the staff were very attentive!

Tims Restaurant & Cafe (Toa Payoh)

Tims Restaurant & Cafe a Nepalese restaurant serves Nepalese and Western cuisine. The restaurant reminds me of Jack's Place. But unlike Jack's Place, Tims Restaurant & Cafe is located under a HDB block and is a non air-conditioned restaurant. The restaurant is located 10 minutes walk away from Braddell MRT staiton.
Daily Set Lunch Menu
The prices on its Daily Set Lunch Menu and Ala Carte Menu are all nett prices, which means there are no additional charges such as service charge and GST as these has already been factored in.

The three of us ordered Chicken MoMo $8.50, Spaghetti Bolognaise Set $10 and Fish & Chips Set $11 (Daily Set Lunch), and Authentic Nepali Roast Chicken $11. The Set Lunch consisted of Soup of the Day, Main Course set, Dessert and Tea/Coffee.
Chicken MoMo $8.50
The Chicken MoMo $8.50 was essentially Nepalese style meat dumplings with coriander, ginger, garlic. It is served together with home made "Nepalese Achar". It was similar to our Chinese cuisine Xiao Long Bao. The difference is that the skin is thicker and there are no broth in the dumplings. The Chicken MoMo was unique. Although I felt that the skin was too thick, the meat fillings inside was wonderfully executed. Dipping the Chicken MoMo into the achar (made of tomatoes, herbs and spices) made it just so addictive!
Minestrone Soup with Garlic Bread
The Soup of the Day was Minestrone Soup. The soup was served with slices of Garlic Bread. Their Garlic Bread fared better than Jack's Place as the garlic spread was thicker.
Minestrone Soup
The Minestrone Soup was filled with lots of ingredients at the bottom of the bowl. Look at the amount of carrots, celery and strands of spaghetti. Unlike other Minestrone soup, this had a unique herbal spice flavour.
Spaghetti Bolognaise Set $10
The Spaghetti Bolognaise Set $10 which my friend ordered. I did not try this. It was quite a big serving.
Fish & Chips Set $11
The Fish & Chips Set $11 may not be the best, but it was decently executed! The plus point would be that it was not oily. In addition, they portion was pretty generous considering the price.
Authentic Nepali Roast Chicken $11
I ordered the Authentic Nepali Roast Chicken $11 which consisted of roasted chicken with rice, achar and vegetables.
Authentic Nepali Roast Chicken $11
I was very impressed with this dish. It was easily the best dish! The chicken was marinated and roasted to perfection. The chicken was meaty and so tender and succulent!
We ended off the meal with a cup of tea (from the set meal) and this cake.

Overall, I was very impressed with Tims Restaurant & Cafe! I am not an expect on whether the food here was authentic or not. But taste wise, I just love it. Price wise, it's so value for money considering the quality and amount of food. I will be back for more!

Tyre Cafe (Wilkie Edge) (Closed)

*Edited Nov 2015: Closed*
The Tyre Cafe is a tyre concept cafe located at Wilkie Edge selling both Chinese and Japanese Cuisine. With its bright orange signage, it was easy to spot.
If you notice the setting of the restaurant, you would notice why it was called Tyre cafe.
Well, this is the reason. In addition, there were posters of sports cars plastered on the walls.
Hin Hwa Mee Sua $7.90
Their specialty is the Hin Hwa Mee Sua $.790 a 80 year old family recipe from Putian, (part of Fujian Province) in China.
Hin Hwa Mee Sua $7.90
The Hin Hwa Mee Sua was served with chicken, omelette, mushrooms, seaweeds, peanuts, fried shallots and mee sua in a clear light brown chicken broth.
Hin Hwa Mee Sua $7.90
The Hin Hwa Mee Sua was delicious! Light, healthy, comforting and homely dish. The flavours and texture complemented each other well. This is a must try! No wonder its their specialty dish! I can eat this everyday and yet not get sick of this!

Late last year, the cafe also had Deal.com.sg deals. I bought two vouchers which cost $5.90 each. The vouchers allowed me to purchase Saba Fish Bento Set / Teriyaki Chicken Bento Set which also came with tofu, edamame, takoyaki balls, fruits and green tea.
Saba Fish Bento Set
This is the Saba Fish Bento Set.
Edamame, Takoyaki Balls
The Edamame and Takoyaki Balls.
Saba Fish Bento Set
The Saba Fish was very well executed. It was crisp and fresh.
Teriyaki Chicken Bento Set
This is the Teriyaki Chicken Bento Set.
Teriyaki Chicken Bento Set
Although both bento sets were decent, they were not fantastic. However, at $5.90, the sets were so value for money! Personally, I preferred the Saba Fish.

Needless to say, my favourite dish is the Hin Hwa Mee Sua!

Ayam Penyet Ria (Lucky Plaza)

Ayam Penyet Ria is an Indonesian restaurant chain specialising in Ayam Penyet (Smashed Fried Chicken). The restaurant is halal certified. The restaurant is located in Lucky Plaza, Far East Plaza, Jurong Point and Bedok Mall. In Lucky Plaza, it is located at two different levels, at level 1 and at level 4. I visited the outlet located at level 4 (which was bigger) on a weekday.
There was ample seating place as the restaurant occupied three units.
There was even an area where customers could wash their hands before or after their meals.
Ayam Penyet $7.40 and Lime Juice $2.05
I ordered the Ayam Penyet $7.40 and Lime Juice $2.05.
Ayam Penyet $7.40
The Ayam Penyet $7.40 comprised of a plate of plain rice and a plate filled with half a smashed chicken, kangkong, fried beancurd, beancake, raw cabbage and cucumber, batter crumbs and sambal chilli.
Ayam Penyet $7.40
The batter skin of the smashed chicken was quite good. The interior was a little too dry on some parts. The sambal chilli was incredibly spicy yet addictive. It complemented the chicken well. It would be good to order a drink in advance such as Lime Juice to help ease the spiciness. The other ingredients such as kangkong, fried beancurd and beancake were ordinary.

At its current price, I doubt I will be back anytime soon.

Arnold's Fried Chicken (Yishun 10 Cinema Cineplex)

I was thrilled when I heard that Arnold's Fried Chicken was opening an outlet in Yishun. The last time I last ate Arnold's Fried Chicken was in early 2012 at City Plaza. With this new outlet, it will be so much more convenient. Arnold's Fried Chicken specialises in serving fried chicken, has been around for more than 25 years and is one of the first Singapore fast food joint to be certified Halal.
Arnold's Fried Chicken in Yishun is located at Yishun 10 Cinema Cineplex (just next to North Point), 5 minutes away from Yishun MRT station. We visited on a Friday evening and there was a queue (around 20 persons) outside which stretched to Wendy's. Nevertheless, we decided to queue after all there was just 20 persons in front of us. Guess how long we queue? You would not believe it... Read on to find out the answer.
Menu
The menu which looked so much more colourful and appetising compared to their old menu! Easy to read too. Good job!
The answer to how long we queue: we waited for a total of 1hr 20mins from the point we started queuing to the point we received our food. There was virtually 3 queues in total.

The first queue was to queue to get a chance to reach the counter to order the food (without making payment). Once you manage to order, you will be given a queue number where you would be placed in a second queue; to wait for a table. When your queue number is called, you would make payment and then be give a buzzer which would activate (shake) to inform customers that their orders were ready. This was third queue
2 Piece Meal $6.60
Good news for those who prefer the 2 Piece Meal. It cost only $6.60, a 20 cents (3%) increase compared to 2012.
2 Piece Meal $6.60
The 2 Piece Meal consisted of 2 pieces of crispy fried chicken served with mashed potatoes (normally comes with fries, but we switched to mashed potato) and coleslaw.
Half Spring Chicken Set $7.10 and a Root Beer (Reg) $2.10
I ordered the Half Spring Chicken Set $7.10 and a Root Beer (Reg) $2.10. The price of the Half Spring Chicken Set has increased by $1.20 (20%) compared to 2012. I am not sure why there was such a huge disparity in increase in prices for the two sets. I should have just ordered the 2 Piece Meal.
Half Spring Chicken Set $7.10
Half Spring Chicken Set comprised of a 1/2 deep fried spring chicken served with potato fries and mashed potato (normally comes with coleslaw, but I switched to mashed potato).
Half Spring Chicken Set $7.10
The freshly fried chicken was still pipping hot when it was served. It was crisp on the outside and the seasoning of spices and herbs made the skin so sinfully addictive! The meat inside was succulent and well marinated. As seen in the above photo, it was still moist, not dry!

I hope they would review the queue system soon. I want visit Arnold's Fried Chicken again as the chicken was delicious. But the thought of the queue system along with a possible 1 hour 20 minutes wait are the deterrence. If you really want to visit, my suggest is to go during non-peak hour or to just order as takeaway (please note, there is a takeaway counter with a way shorter queue. I believe the waiting time is way shorter as there's only 1 queue). Another area of improvement would be the service - clearing and cleaning of the tables so that the turnover would be faster. On several occasions, we noted that when customers have eaten finish and left the table, the staff tasked with cleaning the tables were chatting away and only started cleaning the tables when instructed by another senior staff who was manning the counter.
