Dazzling Cafe Sky 蜜糖土司專賣店 (Taiwan, Taichung)

Vanilla Ice Cream Waffle 200 TWD (S$8.70)
Dazzling Cafe is a popular cafe chain in Taiwan known for their Shibuya Honey Toast. Did you know the Dazzling Group first started out as a clothing and jewelry boutique called Dazzling Fashion before embarking on the Food and Beverage journey.
We went to Dazzling Cafe Sky in Taichung which is located in Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store.
We visited on a weekday afternoon at around 2.30pm. We were surprised to learn that the cafe was fully booked (all the air conditioned seats). Yes, at 2.30pm! Ridiculous right? It is a weekday, don't people need to work!
This whole area (indoor) was booked. Even the empty tables..as they were reserved by customers for the sitting at 3pm. We understand that those dining indoors had a 90-minute time limit., even then it was still fully booked. That is how popular Dazzling Cafe is!
The only place left is alfresco dining outside. But that means dining under the sun. These groups of customers were like us, they did not make any reservations.

After weighing our options, we decided to dine under the sun as this cafe was so popular and back then there was no plans to open the cafe in Singapore. It was quite warm but we still went for it =D

This is the menu.
Part of the drinks menu.
Soup, salad and appetizer menu.
The honey toast and waffle menu.
Fresh Tropical Fruit Tea (Pot) (cold) 160 TWD (S$7)
Each person was required to order a drink regardless of how much food is ordered. We ordered the Fresh Tropical Fruit Tea (Pot) (cold) TWD (S$7).
Fresh Tropical Fruit Tea (Pot) 160 TWD (S$7)
Each individual cup was filled with sliced fruits (apple, orange, grape and strawberry) and ice.
Fresh Tropical Fruit Tea (Pot) 160 TWD (S$7)
We all loved the Fresh Tropical Fruit Tea. It was light and refreshing. It kept us cooled and sane despite having to sit under the sun.
Dazzling Cocoa (35% Cocoa) 140 TWD (S$6.10)
This is the Dazzling Cocoa (35% Cocoa) 140 TWD (S$6.10). I had expected it to be better, but it was just too thin for my liking.
Truffle French Fries 210 TWD (S$9.10)
The Truffle French Fries 210 TWD (S$9.10) was delicious. The fries were straight cut (thick fries). They were hot, crisp and  full of truffle aroma. We all loved this dish and polished it off quickly.
Vanilla Ice Cream Waffle 200 TWD (S$8.70)
Although we were here mainly for the dessert; Shibuya Honey Toast, we decided to also try their Vanilla Ice Cream Waffle 200 TWD (S$8.70). The ice cream was served at the side. The shape of the waffle was unique and it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Hazelnut Chocolate Honey Toast 290 TWD (S$12.60)
Now this is the what we really came for, all the way from Singapore! Tada~ Hazelnut Chocolate Honey Toast 290 TWD (S$12.60). The two pictures did this no justice. It taste way better than it looks. We were very weary that the ice cream was melting very quickly in the heat hence the hastily taken photos.
Hazelnut Chocolate Honey Toast 290 TWD (S$12.60)
The Hazelnut Chocolate Honey Toast consisted of thick honey toast, vanilla ice cream and hazelnut sauce. The bread was perfectly flavored and toast. If you thought that the exterior was delicious, wait till you get to the interior. The toast cubes in the interior had hazelnut bits in them. And when you pop one into your mouth, the hazelnut flavour just seems to explodes out. The taste is totally out of the world. It made the trip worth it especially sunning ourselves outside and sweating for a good one hour for this. This is a must try

You have got to visit Dazzling Cafe in Taiwan! One of our member in this group has tried the outlet in Singapore and was disappointed. It was different from what she had in Taiwan.

Bev C - Cafe & Fashion Retail Store (Malaysia, Johor Bahru)

Lemon Tea Ice Cube Drink and House Special Espresso Ice Cube Drink with Chocolate and Milk
Singapore and Malaysia are closely linked to each other in many aspects, even food. Just like how the number of cafes have emerged in Singapore in recent years, the number of cafes in Malaysia and Johor Bahru have also increased. One such cafe with a unique concept is Bev C.
Bev C is located around 15 minutes walk away from the the causeway / City Square. It stands out among the other cafes because of its unique concept and design. It is both a cafe and fashion retail store!
Bev C is uniquely design. From its appearance, it would not be a sweeping statement to say that a tremendous thoughts and effort had been placed into its design. It is suitable photo shoot, be it OOT (Outfit Of the Day), selfie or welfie.
Looks at these pictures.
There is even a cozy corner with a bed! How cool is that!
House Special Espresso Ice Cube Drink with Chocolate and Milk RM 12.90
As for their drinks, they are not only thirst quencher, but also Instagram worthy and unique. Most patrons will come here for their ice cubes drinks which are one of the must tries at this cafe due to its unique concept. The concept is not to use (normal) ice cubes which dilutes the drink. Hence, for this House Special Espresso Ice Cube Drink with Chocolate and Milk RM 12.90, it came with Espresso ice cubes!! Cold milk is then poured into the glass filled with  espresso ice cubes and chocolate.
Lemon Tea Ice Cube Drink RM 12.90
Another popular drink that is enjoy by patrons from all walks of life is the Lemon Tea Ice Cube Drink RM 12.90.
Lemon Tea Ice Cube Drink RM 12.90
Yes, you saw this correctly, there are lemon tea ice cubes. It is so refreshing and perfect for this scorching weather!
White Chocolate Truffle Pie RM 13.90
The White Chocolate Truffle Pie RM 13.90 is one of their best sellers at this cafe. Very forgiving in terms of taste and not overly sweet. The truffle flavour was on the faint end though.

To me, Bev C stands out more as a cafe compared to a clothing retail store. With its unique design and menu, it is bound to attract even more attention from both sides of the causeway although it is located along the same alley with many other cafes. Great place to chill out at!

Kim Bak Chor Mee 金肉脞面 (Balestier Road)

Bak Chor Mee $4
Kim Bak Chor Mee 金肉脞面 is a minced meat noodles (bak chor mee) stall operated by an elderly man called Mr Ng. The stall located along Balestier Road has garnered quite a fair amount of reputation on the blogsphere in this year.
Mr Ng is in the photo above. I arrived on a weekday afternoon during lunch time and waited around 10 minutes before the food was served.
Bak Chor Mee $4
The Bak Chor Mee cost $4 consisted of noodles with braised mushroom served with a bowl of soup with sliced meat, pork liver, minced meat and meatballs in it.
Bak Chor Mee $4
This bowl of mee pok was quite good. The noodles were well cooked and the sauce was tasty with a hint of hae bee (dried shrimps). I particularly liked their braised mushroom which was so fragrant.
Bak Chor Mee $4
As for the bowl of soup, it was just so disappointing. The livers were sliced too thinly and was overcooked despite me removing them from the soup earlier. The rest of the ingredients like sliced meat, meatballs and the soup was mediocre.

I am not too sure what the hype is about as there are other better bak chor mee stalls.

Xiang Xiang Fishball Noodle香香 (Chong Pang Food Centre)

Fishball Noodle (Mee Pok) $3
Xiang Xiang Fishball Noodle香香 is a fishball noodles stall located in Chong Pang Food Centre in Yishun.
Xiang Xiang Fishball Noodle香香 is one of the more popular stall in this food centre. This stall has been around for a long time (more than 25 years ago) and has a loyal customer base. It is very popular and you can expect to wait 30 minutes for your food to be served during peak hours. This stall is one of the few which is not self-service. So you can wait for your food to be delivered to your table after ordering. Look at the number of awards displayed at the facade of the stall. They are popular for their fishballs and also old school style fishball noodles. Today, they have started selling their fshball at the price of $2 for 9 pieces of fishballs.
Fishball Noodle (Mee Pok) $3
I visited at 3pm for tea break as I know better than to order during peak hours. I ordered the dry version of the Fishball Noodle (Mee Pok) $3 with chilli. For $3, this was extremely value for money considering how generous they are with the ingredients.
Fishball Noodle (Mee Pok) $3
The mee pok was topped with generous amount of bean sprouts, spring onions and pork lard. The chilli sauce at the bottom when mixed with the noodles was a perfect match and had me wanting for more. The noodles were well cooked; soft and springy (QQ). Coupled with the bean sprouts, it provided crunchiness to this bowl of noodles.
Fishballs
5 pieces of fishballs were provided. And it is not any normal pathetic small-sized fish balls. The fish balls here were slightly bigger than normal (elsewhere). How good is the fish ball? Well, taste is subjective. So why not let me just say this and you decide for yourself. During (every) Eve of Chinese New Year, they sell lots and lots of the fish balls (if I am right, the number of fish balls they sell is close to a couple of thousands during this period). Many customers purchase the uncooked fish balls from them and use them for their reunion steam boat and other dishes over the festive period.

To conclude, this was Cheap & Good. Have you tried this?

Hock Prawn Mee 福鰕面 (Jalan Besar)

Pork Rib Prawn Noodle $5
Hock Prawn Mee 福鰕面 is a prawn noodle stall located at a quiet coffeeshop in Jalan Besar area, oppsite Sim Lim Tower, near Sim Lim Square. It is located just opposite Wanderlust Hotel.

This prawn mee is located in the same coffeeshop as the Hainan Chicken Rice Ball.
I was surprised that Hock Prawn Mee is open 24 hours.
It was manned by an elderly lady and a gentleman in his 40s-50s during the day time when I went on several occasions. The elderly lady was in charge of cooking the food (including the soup stock) while the gentleman was in charge of taking down orders, serving and collection of payment.
Intestine Prawn Noodle $5
Seeing that they offer pig small intestines, I ordered the Intestine Prawn Noodle which cost $5. I was surprised that the price of the prawn noodles at this coffeeshop start from $4 onwards. Was expecting more of $3 or $3.50.
Intestine Prawn Noodle $5
The small intestine was delicious. It was very well cleaned with its innards still intact inside. regretted ordering the dry version as the chilli sauce was disappointing. It lacked fragrance and was not spicy. The soup provided was yummy though! It was very tasty.
Pork Rib Prawn Noodle $5
On the subsequent visit, I ordered the soup version of the Pork Rib Prawn Noodle $5. This was delicious as the soup base was very well done and full of umami flavour. In addition, the pork rib was tender.

Personally, I prefer their soup version. Their dry version was disappointing due to the chilli. Pricewise, it is on the higher end compared to its peers in coffeeshops and hawker centres.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle 吊桥头大华猪肉粿条面 (Lavendar)

Bak Chor Mee $8
Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle has been in operation for over 75 years. This stall is extremely famous for its Pork Noodle also know as Bak Chor Mee (BCM) / Minced Pork Noodle. The owner of this stall, Mr Tang Chay Seng, first selling minced meat noodles 1936 at Hill Street before shifting to Marina Square in 1986, its present location is now at Crawford Lane. Located 5 minutes away from Lavendar MRT station, Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle can be found in a coffee shop (the coffee shop is called Tai Hwa Eating House) at the back of Immigration & Checkpoint Authority of Singapore (ICA).
I first got to know of this Bak Chor Mee stall in 2006. Since then, this has always been my favourite Bak Chor Mee. Long queues were a norm during lunch and dinner period with queues stretching out of the coffee shop (which means 45 minutes to 1 hour wait)! In the recent years, queues are frequent even during non-peak hours (e.g. 11am, 5pm).
The prices of the food have increased significantly. From $3 in 2006 to  $4,$5,$6 in 2011 to $5,$6,$8,$10 in 2015 The owner is smart, as many customers including myself goes for the $8/$10 version after queuing for such a long duration, we just want to make our wait worthwhile (may as well right)? In addition, this is the kiasu Singaporean mentality.

Bak Chor Mee $8
This is the $8 Bak Chor Mee.
Bak Chor Mee $8
Look at the amount of ingredients given. This Teochew style Bak Chor Mee was perfect. The ingredients were so fresh and cooked to perfection. The Pork Liver which was cooked just right deserved a mention; soft and tender with no unpleasant taste or smell. Can't find any fault with their meatballs, minced meat, dumplings, fried crispy fish and pork lard. They were all so good. Toss everything up with the mixture of chilli and vinegar sauce. The vinegar they used intensified the oomph factor of this dish. Irresistible!
Dumplings and Meatballs Soup $6
We also ordered a bowl of Dumplings and Meatballs Soup $6 for sharing.
Dumplings and Meatballs Soup $6
It consisted of pork slices, minced meat, liver, meatballs, dumplings and seaweed! So tasty! The soup is full of essence of pork flavour that can only be achieve through hours of boiling pork meat and bones. I drank every single drop.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle's Bak Chor Mee is still (and will be) my favourite Bak Chor Mee after all these years. In fact, its the best (die die must try!) Bak Chor Mee in Singapore. Fresh quality food that is well worth the money spent and time queuing. This is one food worth the wait and money! Can't wait to have more of this! This is the one and only Hill Street Tai Hwa! There are no other outlets!
