A Noodle Story 超好面 (Amoy Street Food Centre)


A Noodle Story 超好面 located in Amoy Street Food Centre has differentiated itself by being the first and only Singapore-style ramen. This is the brain child of two Shatec trained friends who decided to create ultimate noodles dish through a combination of modern European techniques and Asian flavours providing gourmet quality noodles at hawker prices. 
A Noodle Story has announced on Jan this year that due to increase in operating cost (rental and cost of raw ingredients), their prices have increased by 50 cents. Hence, please note to increase the prices by 50 cents for all the prices stated in this blog post. 
Singapore Style Ramen $6
The Singapore Style Ramen $6 consisted of Noodles, Hot Spring Egg, Cha Su, Potato Wrapped Prawn, and HK Style Wanton topped with scallions. The soup was served separately in a small bowl. The noodles were very springy and were similar to mee kia.

The noodles were cluttered together in a lump making it hard to eat. The chilli added at the side lacked spiciness and fragrance and was too dry. The ingredients such as the Potato Wrapped Prawn, Cha Su and Hot Spring Egg were quite good whereas the HK Style Wanton was ordinary with nothing much to shout about.

As a whole, the presentation and concept of this Singapore Style Ramen was unique. It looked real good. But taste wise, it was not mind blowing. Nevertheless, I still must say that I admire the spirit of these two young men for their innovation in creating such a dish. Moreover, the effort taken to arrange the ingredients in the bowl although this was not a restaurant.

  1. Quite a mystery. Haven't seen anything close to the dishes esp the potato wrapped prawn. I agree that its innovation to the highest degree while the taste wasn't nothing to jump about.

  2. The egg doesn't look like those type you see in the normal ramen shops..

    And i really dislike noodles that clump together. :(

  3. Am I the only person who agree with you? I've read so much about it prior to my visit so when I was there earlier today, I had a certain expectations.

    I went there yesterday and was told it's sold out and the more I read about the review the more I crave for it. But after waited in line for 15 mins and got my med-size noodle, the noodle is definitely a let down. Here's why...

    I agree with you that the presentation is superb and the food quality is good too for a hawker standard except, I really dislike the 'special sauce.' While it was slightly bland 2 years ago, they must have fine-tuned their taste. I find it too overpowering and salty :( While they call the wanton HK wanton, it's nowhere close to HK-standard wanton. I find it rather compact and lacking in freshness. Also, they claim on their website that their food is msg-free, I was thirsty as hell after my meal and I quickly drained off my 1/2 a liter of water bottle :( The soup definitely contains msg! There's no way, naturally boiled soup taste like that.

    What I really love is their onsen egg, chasu and potato wrapped prawn. The 3 ingredients made the meal enjoyable but I still don't find them a match with the wanton and the 'special sauce'

    Overall, although I find them overrated and not worth the queue, I have to say I admire the spirit of these young hawkerpreneur. Their spirit to innovate the hawker food scene is admirable.

  4. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have not patronised this stall for 2 and a half years. There are so much food to eat in Singapore -).

    I still remember that taste wise it was average. On the part of saltiness, I am normally sensitive to that. As you have shared, they must have fine tuned the taste!

    I hope you will have a better foodie experience at other hawker stalls =)
